My boss/mentor (now deceased) used to hack his GMT to short wave radio…he was a big nerd.

Just received this from member @knafel1983
It is absolutely fantastic! The case and lugs are so sharp. I’ve also never been a “hidden crown” guy but I love it! Just such a cool watch for such a great deal 😀

As I command two Caravelles, I am now officially a Commodore. If only I had a Nao, I could be Christopher Colombus!

Note the original cyclops crystal on this one.

On the left, a '69 automatic 665-1, with a Caravelle-signed ETA 2472 movement. These and the '67s were the only all-Swiss models, I believe. 35mm.
On the right, also a '69, this one an NOS manual with the excellent Caravelle 11DP (Citizen 0241) movement. 37mm.

Nice! I have often wondered which Japanese company made the movements for these (and the Benrus’/Belforte of the time) and the info out there is vague- I assumed citizen.

one with the date magnifier crystal is an early SWISS MOVEMENT Caravelle ... later on BULOVA reached out to CITIZEN for a movement to use, to keep their overhead at a minimum

Love the Caravelles. Every now and then I have regrets about selling my '70 Sea Hunter (12,9,6,3 w/stick hands and lollipop)

Here's our not-often-seen 1978 Caravelle skeleton with a Swiss movement. Maybe they used a Swiss movement in some of the upper end offerings?

I can not seem to find anyone interested in a Bulova farm.

I would probably like them more if I did not have so many other watches and brands. Could be that Bulova's are neither one thing or another. American, then not American. Mechanical, then electric, then quartz.

One could say the same thing of Elgin and Waltham. I used to favor the latter. Recently I have become quite enamored with the 1940s WWII era Elgins. I seem to have collected quite a bit of material. Mostly balance staffs.

This is my 1970 Bulova inherited from my father, who bought it new in Athens, Greece. It had sat in a drawer for a couple of decades until my uncle came across it and gave it to me. After a service and finding a NOS Bulova lizard strap, it now serves as my wedding/special family occasion watch -- basically I wear it any time I want to bring something of my father along with me. I suppose it's a pivotal watch in that it's also what reignited my passion for mechanical watches after a long hiatus (school, work, family, etc).

A quick anecdote too -- my uncle and I were going through some old photos and found one of him, my father, and a friend at a music/tavern/club back in the day when they were young. A famous singer at the time, while singing and sitting in my uncle's lap (yowza!) and looking at my dad, had gotten his attention and he's pictured reaching out to...I'm not sure what, haha. On his wrist is this watch!

Anyway, even though this is "just a Bulova", it's a bit more than that for me. Nevermind that it has been back in semi-regular wear rotation and hasn't missed a beat in 10 years.

Here's my M9 Oceanographer riding on a Stelux bracelet. It's interesting how most of these don't come with the original bracelet.

Would love to find an original bracelet for mine if anyone here has a line one (rare, I know).
