that is a great story! thanks for sharing. Just out of curiosity, did you happen to observe what watch he was wearing that day?
I didn't, unfortunately. I wasn't into watches at the time, chiefly because my (now ex) wife and I had a two-year-old son at home and we didn't have the money to do any really discretionary spending (although I wore a Bulova Accutron Spaceview in those days). I've thought about what watch he may have been wearing ... if I had to guess, I'd say it was as likely as not that he wore his Rolex GMT-Master. There are lots of photos of him doing public appearances in the '90s showing that watch on his wrist, as I recall.

Indeed James Lovell preferred to wear his personal Rolex GMT-master Pepsi pilot / aviator watch... makes me wonder who Omega might bring forward to highlight the release of their upcoming 50th Apollo 13 Speedmaster...

Has anyone heard anything solid about Apollo 13 50th? Just a little teaser is all I need to calm me down. I love the story and it’s my favourite mission by far but I couldn’t get into the last two Snoopy watches and I’m hoping for something a bit special. Come on Omega give us a five second video with little to no information like you usually do and at least I know it’s on it’s way. Peace

Take my money if it's a Pepsi Speedmaster LE 😁

Captain Lovell has done some publicity events with Omega in the past, but I don't think he's made any public appearances that I know of in the past couple of years. Fred Haise is still living, as far as I know, but I have no idea if he's ever done any Omega-connected stuff.

This seems like a fall release.
That is what my boutique manager has indicated is likely. And she has never been wrong.

This would seem to be very anticlimactic. Of course there is always the chance that Omega might pass on a special watch for the 50th. Details on the Apollo 11 50th started appearing on the internal Omega website last March, about four months prior to the actual anniversary. So far, squat from Omega on any Apollo 13, dealers and OB's know nuttin'. With 007 and the Olympics, maybe Omega figures the Apollo 11 and 321 reeditions are the capstone of the space gig. Maybe they are moving on.

Or not.

Omega will not pass on the 50th Apollo 13 ... it has been an important event, known by the general public, receiving the NASA Snoopy award etc...

Public service announcement for all you podcast fans. "13 Minutes to the Moon" just started their Apollo 13 series. They did an incredible Apollo 11 series last year that is also definitely worth a listen. Enjoy!

He actually has. The fall of 2018 the local Omega AD near NASA in Houston had an event with Tom Stafford. I was invited to a luncheon and a little man got out of a truck and joined in. Later I realized it was Haise. Just a simple humble man. I asked if he would sign my 45th A11 box. He agreed to do so if I held his doggie bag!

Very cool indeed! We could start a separate thread about personal encounters with astronauts (or other famous Omega wearers, for that matter).

I've heard rumors that since it's a golden anniversary the watch will either made made out of gold or be two-tone. My OB told me fall release, and it looks like that's what others are being told, so I think that's correct.

I've heard rumors OB's were informed it will not be limited, similar to the NTTD Seamaster release.

My OB told me probably two tone and a gold like the 11th. Details in a few weeks with deposit probably $5k.

My OB said they hadn’t heard anything and knew the same as me.

Two Tone, are you sure? That would be kinda cool / unexpected.

That's what he said so I'm just relaying info. Last year he told me about the Ed White re-release before it happened and he was spot on. He went to the Miami 321 event Feb 2019, some other event at Kennedy Space Center May 2019, etc. I knew about the 19mm flat link 321 Ed White version not long after that, but was out of my price range for steel. I don't like gold so I passed on their offer for the Apollo 11 50th. If it's gold again I will pass. If I hear anything new in the coming weeks I'll let you guys know. The last silver Snoopy was gorgeous so it will be hard for them to outdo that imo. I won't have high expectations.
