For me it was a fair price, because the engraving on the back, in my view considerably decreased its value.

Without looking inside, it is really hard to tell... Even if the lume and hands look really attractive...
How would you price the under value if the movement is wrong but still a decent 321 cal... If it happened in that case do you think the buyer could find the right one somewhere else ?

What's wrong with the engraving. It's possible it graced the wrist of the ledgend himself? Worth every penny!

I'm with you. Happy to stick with my approach of trying to snag the odd one cheap and leave a little hope of it being better than expected rather than pay top dollar first and sweat on what's going to turn up. Each to their own though.

If they have the 14 day return I would be ok with it myself. Seller has a good rating and I would just let them know before bidding just in case. Might be worth the gamble.

Be interested to hear of anyone's success, or otherwise, trying to negotiate this type of "buy to return if not thrilled" approach. After all the seller hasn't promised much in the listing. As I see it, the buyer is basing their purchase on two out of only three pictures.

Good luck with that! The movement would have to be out of a 2998 also. (http://www.vintageure.dk/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=326)
If it's a -6, 18.646.xxx or 18.946.xxx. If it's a -61, 18.846.xxx, 19.584.xxx or 19.8xx.xxx. if it's a -62, 19.581.xxx or 19.833.xxx.
I know of at least one series of movements that the article missed, (18.419.xxx for 2998-5).

This is a right rough bag of bits. Everything on it is very poor.

My bet is that has been thrown together at some point. Not necessarily by this seller, but really it is terrible in every sense, while at the same time nearly "correct". Every part is poor. The dial is unattractive.

The subdial hands are in my opinion not important and easily replaced. The trouble is that they indicate to me someone has really poked about in this watch.
