Just wondering if anyone here knows a lot of details about Red Submariners. I have an opportunity to purchase one and want some input on condition and pricing so if anyone is able to help, can you please PM me?

Thanks!

Cheers, Al

Al, Pete over on WWF knows more about them than anyone I know.

Hello, this is my first post here but I'm very active over at VRF and TRF. I found some cool old omegas today and was hoping for some insight when I saw this thread. I know a little something about red subs. I have a 2.9 serial mark iv, and have done tons of research on them. What questions do you have?

Thanks for the offers of help. I have already had quite a few of my questions answered, and I have posted on VRF specifically about the serial number range.

The 3.4 million serial number is high for a Mk. IV dial, but feedback at VRF appears to indicate others have been seen this high as well.

I think I'm good to move forward with it now, if I can get it at the right price. Will certainly follow up with pics here if the deal gets done!

Cheers and thanks again.

Al

Oh one thing that maybe someone can verify - I believe this box is not correct for the red sub and was for watches a bit later....

The case back is marked IV.72, and I have been told this box was used from 1974 onwards. I suspect it's just the dealer handing out the wrong box as they still do today...

The box is not correct, but the booklet (if authentic---they are heavily faked) is correct. The booklet alone is worth around $600 or more; that hang tag is a couple hundred.

Agree the box is not correct (and the price should reflect that fact), and your thought about the boxes being switched at the AD is not unlikely. There plenty of nice Reds out there without b&p - personally, I wouldn't pay the premium.

Thanks for the input guys.

Does anyone have a photo of the correct box? I think this woman (who is selling her late husband's collection piece by piece) has other Rolex watches so she may have just brought out the wrong box for this specific watch. If I had a photo of the right box maybe I could ask her to check for it.

Okay deal is done - it's mine! 😀

Of course it needs a service, so I will have to make room in my schedule for this one.
