Its sort of effortlessly classy. I think a few Rolexes struggle with that. Nice watch.

Thanks for all the kind words - dropped off a very large wad of $100 bills this afternoon, so it's really officially mine now.

I have serviced these before, but never thought I would have an opportunity to own one, but this deal was too good to pass up!

Thanks again to all that helped me with the details on this one. It really is crazy that a single word written in a different colour on the dial would command such a premium, but I guess in the Omega world it's not much different talking about whether a dot is above or beside a number on a bezel and similar things.

Once I get it all serviced I'll post some more photos.

Cheers, Al

Congratulations Al!

What eventually happened regarding the box?

The person selling the watch checked and said this was the box that they had received from the AD when the watch was purchased, so the box was not correct, but I paid accordingly.

So 40 years ago AD's were giving out the wrong boxes, so that has a long tradition in the industry it seems!

Cheers, Al

So just to give a little background on the purchase, the person I bought the red sub from is selling a bunch of watches, and they have more apparently. I don't know what they are holding back, since they are being brought out one at a time right now. There could be other treasures awaiting...

I have actually seen a few of them already as they started coming up for sale last year. Some I have worked on preparing them for sale...and some I am servicing after they have been sold.

Ladies Bulova Accutron in solid 18k gold...not very collectible but certainly has gold value - it barely looks worn. The bracelet even has that stiffness in the links you get with a brand new watch. I just cleaned up the gaskets that had turned to goop, and did some general checks and then pressure testing:

This Tissot is not my thing (TT quartz and kind of gaudy IMO) but again it was in near perfect shape. I checked the movement, cleaned it up, replaced the battery and case back seal, and pressure tested it:

Here is a vintage Navtimer that I performed a full serviced on for a buddy of mine who bought the watch for himself - it was in very good condition:

He also bought this vintage Tudor Prince OysterDate gold watch with black dial - it's with me for service now and it's again in superb shape:

It will be interesting to see what comes up for sale in the future...

Cheers, Al

Did you factor in the price of a service? Oh, wait a minute....

Great find! She's a beauty!

Nice! Where are these being advertised? I'd love to keep an eye on them as they get posted as they all seem to be in great shape.

These are not being posted on watch forums or anything. I am dealing with a contact I have who is acting as a broker, so I have never actually spoken directly to the seller. The negotiation back and forth on the red sub was done via the person acting as the broker.

Other then the quartz Tissot, this is the only watch I have been offered so far - the others were just watches sent in for work. I actually didn't realize they were all from the same person until a few days ago....

One of the tighter 9315s I've seen, can't have seen too much wear

The box isn't correct as such but like any Rolex back then, boxes and bracelets were up to the discreason of the dealer. That's why you see GMTs with Sub bracelets. Not a Frankenstein because pilots wore them over their flight suits and needed the diver extension. Rolex encouraged this. So seeing a mis-matched box is unsurprising.

Nice! Love Red Subs, here are some shots of my box, it does not have the ROLEX in the front of the inner box. Perhaps just made for different markets/period.

Incredible find Al, Can you give an indication about the premium that one has to pay for a red example, when compared to a regular one?
