Anyone ever received a bonus rock with their watch parcel?…

So I was waiting on a delivery from my German post forwarding box of a Tissot that I’d bought out of Italy. Had issues with UPS holding it and wanting more fees and it seemed to take a while through Customs too.
It arrived today and felt heavier than expected. Opened it up to find a wrapped rock…

First thoughts were I had been scammed. 🤨 our receptionist was next to me as she loves seeing all the unboxing of the random vintage crap I buy and she is also a watch girl. She was baffled too. Was about to start furiously messaging the seller but then in the bottom corner of the box I found my watch tucked away! 😅 Has anyone ever encountered this before?

Clever way to add more weight and detract would be thiefs- but they may have overdone it. I’ve used other types of objects to weigh down a watch packet but those have included chocolate bars or books, not rocks. But who knows, if the watcy is well hidden in a corner a central rock may be a good idea.

I once received an open padded envelope, the vintage pigskin strap I had bought was tucked on one side, I bet the thief who opened the envelope was disappointed to find the cylinder shape inside was not a pen but it did reveal how brazen those people can be.

Congrats on getting the watch. This reminds me of an incredible thread where @DLT222 scammed a scammer with a rock inside a packet.

But anyway it reminded me of a thread I saw on either WUS or TZ many years ago, about a guy buying a watch from another member and getting the watch plus a surprise in the box - cat shit. An argument ensued on the forum and the seller claimed he didn't know it was in there, but I'm not sure too many people believed him...

Makes you wonder what went down between people for someone to send such stuff.
Edit/afd, thus got me searching and it appears sending poop by mail is a good business! 😁

I have to admit that I have added odd things to shipped packages to confuse or discourage potential theft.

Coffee beans, for example, are great noise makers....

That’s a cool idea! But it would be a pity to waste coffee beans on someone who doesn’t like coffee. (Or who’s super picky about it)

It's a German rock. I was mistaken at it being the watch from Italy, that was an Accutron that came in the same package consolidation.
I think it needs to live in my garden so I can have a little bit of Europe in the backyard.

I'd guess sending coffee beans in the mail is an open invitation for Customs to open up your package.

Evidently, coffee beans are often used to try to mask the smell of weed.

And just for completeness on the contents of the overall package, this was the Accutron Spaceview from Italy. I find the history of the Accutrons fascinating.

Even more of a worry for us down here, the biosecurity laws are such that a whole lot of non-packaged or raw foods, seeds, and anything that can contain pests or bugs would put the package at risk of being held up by @STANDY 's mates. Hopefully they wouldn't chuck a watch out with some snacks but you never know

That leaves gummy bears / Haribo candy/ so chemical no pedt could possibly survive. Also pretty good padding I suspect with the gummy texture 😀

I don't know about German rock, but the German Heavy Metal is legendary. I am a big fan of Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Edguy, Accept, etc.
The watch is nice. When I opened the thread I was expecting something like semi-precious gemstones, but it's really a rock and not even very nice looking one. Maybe has a great character 😁
