Atmos question:

When setting time, can one move the minute hand counter-clockwise?
I've seen conflicting information on the web....

Personnaly, I never touch the hands when setting my clock. I just stop the clock with the lever (for one hour or 11 hours) and restart it.

My clock/watchmaker told me to not set it counter clockwise, the way to set it properly is lock it with the lever and turn the minute hand clockwise until you get to the current time.

It's generally not recommended to turn the hands backward, but if you do it at the point when the balance is at the end of its turn you will be ok. But Atmos figures most people won't follow that rule so they just recommend not turning them backwards.

Just wanted to mention that the two new Atmos clocks released today are AMAZING!!!

The infinite collection is GORGEOUS (and somewhat attainable for mere mortals, even though $13k is no pocket change)…

…while the Hybris Mechanica limited edition is OUT OF THIS WORLD (well, at a minimum, the half a million $ is… but regardless of the price, I really think this is very very cool!!).

Here is mine from approx 1966. It was a long service retirement gift to the original owner.

That was back in the day when they retailed for about $125, now the basic Atmos is $7,100. Companies probably bought them for less than $100 so they were an affordable retirement or long-service-award gift. No longer.

I'm going to get one of those Hybris Mechanicas after the fall of civilization, when there's no power grid, and whoever has the biggest guns makes the rules. It'll be just like Texas, but everywhere.

After the Fall of Civilization, who's gonna service your Atmos?

I've got a sundial...
