I believe you all have forgot a very good alternative to Canada and Australia.

Welcome to Sweden.

We all speak English here, there are six months of nice weather every year and the rest of the year we have the famous Swedish opposite sex.
No dangerous animals, no dangerous nature - no volcanos, land slides, tzunamis, earth quakes, etc. We have, by law, at least four weeks of vacation every year (I have six). You get to be with your children when they are born - for a over a year - with pay. Health insurance is not needed - hospitals treat you anyway. People are not armed to their teeth - no need to. We have a voting system that at least helps democracy. We are rated among top three in the world - in democracy ranking. Etc, etc.

Draw backs - I pay around 40% tax. And drinking is rather expensive. Oh - some of you might consider this a draw back (not me) - almost no fire arms.

I like this idea. The only issue is my wife - she's a Pacific Island woman and the cold is like kryptonite for her. We'd miss the beach, but with that much vacation we could survive.

Got any openings over there for a nurse with her Masters Degree and a mattress salesperson?

Shhhh... hush... I am luring them in to get their watches.

I knew there had to be a trade-off.

Aside from this, what's the benefit again?

Sounds wonderful. Is the 40% inclusive of your VAT and Income Tax or is VAT extra?

Canada has their flag on the better part of our population for the dark part of the year. Canada goose is big here. For a reason. Get her one and get over here.

I read that your moms tax is 25%. Combined tax rate of 65%🙁.
I think I'll take my chances with our new President.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to traveling to our new American 51st and 52nd states.
The Baja Peninsula of California and Newfoundland.

Taxes are not a problem if you get it back in another form - medical care, parent leave, shools (free lunch for children), retirement pension, roads, etc., etc. If you get something for your tax you do not mind paying it.

I agree with you, but 59 million of my countrymen unfortunately disagree.

The US has a similar problem. About 59 million of our 320+ million inhabitants think that money and care should be free from the government, and they don't do a single day's work to earn it. It comes out of the hard working citizen's pocket.... like mine.

Well, people tend to underinvest in their own healthcare and education, not because they are lazy, stupid or spendthrift, but because they don't get the full return on that investment. A chunk of it goes to society as a whole, which is better off when its population is better educated, healthier and more productive. That's why one of government's fundamental roles is to subsidize healthcare and education.

This is basic economics. Read up on the concepts of "public goods" and "externalities", though neither healthcare or education are "pure" public goods. I'm not saying you are among them, but I notice people seem increasingly unaware of the shortcomings of unbridled free enterprise, and the need for government intervention in a variety of ways.

Unbridled free enterprise or unbridled government. Give me the former, please.
