The Watch Gods have been good to me lately. They know I like oddball gold chronometers from the 50's. And they know I like jumbo cases. And so they gave me this 37mm 18k YG chronometer from Philip Watch, best known for the Caribbean diver, on a cool old shark skin band. Thank you, Watch Gods.

No surprise here... the movement is a modified, 21-jewel AS 1361N, also seen in chronometers from Rado, Enicar and others... and found in early versions of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.

Really the perfect size for this sort of thing at 37mm. Well done Philip Watch... very forward thinking. 😀

This might be your best oddball score ever. It ticks a lot of boxes - size, guillochage, cool dial script, nice markers, mellow patina, good condition, GOLD, and obscure as heck.

that deserves the Goldmember seal of approval

Looks like mother of pearl guilloche 👍

There was a VC from the late 40's or early 50's with a VERY similar dial.

Very cool!
It made me think of the Captain also.
In a Constellation dial kind of way.
Has it got a high profile? Looks it

Thanks... you summed it up. Would add very reasonable price, for the full monty on this one. The best part was that the seller gave a measurement of 1.5 inches (38 mm) for the case including crown, so I was expecting maybe 35 mm. The jumbo-ness was a most excellent surprise.

Thanks! Here is the Philip Watch next to the golden turtle Captain. Dimensions are similar, but the Zenith is 12 mm thick, and the Philip Watch is 11 mm thick. The Philip Watch doesn't create quite the same dome effect on the wrist, but it seems to wear bigger because the dial is a little bit bigger than the Captain's.

At the very least you could send pictures and have your watch featured there.
