An interesting look INTO the Polaris

Not sure who did this or why, but someone dug up the gold inlay from this Polaris. I have been curious about how they produced the 2-material case, so it was quite interesting to see it in this manner (not that I recommend people dismantling their watches 😁).

The inlay seems quite thick.

And there are holes at the 4 corners - for securing the inlay further?

Such a shame to destroy the watch case for what could have only been a few grams of gold.

Ouch, that's painful to look at whith what must be very little marginal gain

These models have at best niche popularity but my 1992 Polaris Multifunction gets its fair share of wrist time - I've always had a hankering for a multidial mechanical version with date or better still chrono functionality.

Probably done by using an amalgam of mercury and gold alloy. Same as using silver and mercury amalgam to fill repaired teeth.

Yeah I wonder just how desperate was the person to actually dig up that bit of gold.

I always thought these, especially the palladium ones, looked like cool alternatives to the usual bracelet watches.
