Yea I had a feeling it had to be, just not something I’ve ever seen before

Yea I really, really want to know who this dude was and how he was enough of a big dog to get Omega to take his money and make this for him. I’d love to see the extract from the archive on this too.

This would be my guess as to who it might be…

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_da_Luz_Afonso

Would certainly have the clout/fame to make such a request to Omega.

His age and the timing of when he was active in football also would work.

Edit - just realized his name was Manuel vs Manoel… not sure if the names are interchangeable or if one is more common in Brazil vs. Portugal.

The extract would certainly help narrow the search.

You can just reach out to small scale manufacturers for modifications, I assume back in the day big manufacturers were also catering, I always assumed these kind of special dials we see are from people who just persistently inquired to get something unique

Edit: Sorry, I misread the meaning of @kaplan's comment, but still wanted to share these observations.

I think it would have had to have been made at the factory, or else the dial was purchased without markers. The usual markers would go at the edges between the faces of the pie pan, but there was never anything there. The only markers were these letters on the faces of the pie pan. The watchmaker had to reposition the dial feet (grinding marks are apparent), but this was done before placing the markers, the logo, the star, and all the print and (circular) minute track. Pretty cool, aside from the inscrutable name.

Disappointment?
Imagine you are wearing your new baller watch. Someone says,
Neato watch! What's with the letters on the dial?
You: original owner was Manoel Afonso, I think.
Him: who is Manoel Afonso? A relative?
You: I have no idea...
Him: 😕

Disturbing how all the photos are low res, assumably intentional

The reference is top. Also I think that this watch is for Senhor Afonso only.

It was a gift from the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers to their bassist who is known for not appreciating gifts but loving anagrams.

“Flea moan soon”

This is the best answer of all!

Looks like it went for $8k, still more than I expected given the name on it.

Now this watch already sold to one of the collector/seller.

He mentioned that the name printed on the dial was “MANOEL AFONSO”, The Brazilian politician.

At first, I still have a question about the word “SWISS MADE”.
I requested more picture from him, finally I think it looks good.

If that’s him, he was the manager whose team lost to England in the 1966 World Cup semi-final. They had Eusebio, but we had Bobby Charlton!

Have you applied for the Omega Extract before the service closed?
I don't know how to apply omega extract. And when I apply can I find out information?
