Am I being stupid?

For me the FOMO was not liking the black one until I already had the white one. So now I have both plus one and love them all.
Now that is the ultimate solution, I love it!

I sense FOMO from your post, but you did a good thing IMO - you bought what suits you. Why even think of getting something that would not serve its purpose? Why do you care if some youtubers or anonymous voices on the internet glorify the white speedy? You saw them side-by-side and picked one you liked more! As it should be. In general, white dials offer lower legibility compared to black dials. If your eyes prefer the higher contrast of the black dial, that is the way to go. But who am I to tell you, I own a brown dialled speedy and a Globemaster, both seen as outliers by the majority. And I don't give a .... regret 馃榾
I think you're spot on. FOMO plus needing a bit of reassurance ,which I'm getting here in spades. Will go get it soon, getting pretty excited. Thank you !!

Oh, and if you can't get that white dial out of your head, just wait a little and get one later. The white one is probably here to stay for a while, based on the positive response since its launch.
Yup, or a white dial Seamaster . I saw that yesterday too; that's a beautiful piece too.

You can't go wrong with the black Speedmaster, especially the 3861 version with the stepped subdials. A classic that won't go out of style.

Very nice. Love that strap too.

How about a white-dialled Globemaster? Those are nice too, just their pie-pan is not as visible as the blue-dialled version.

How about a white-dialled Globemaster? Those are s well. Initially not nice too, just their pie-pan is not as visible as the blue-dialled version.
That's crossed my radar as well. Initially not so taken with pie-pan, but I prefer the subtlety of it on the white , I think. Thanks for the suggestion.

I looked at the white dial Speedy also -- but didn't really bond with it.

In the end I stuck with my original FOIS, and bought the Seamaster white dial, which I am delighted with.

Plenty of variants to choose from, and the current models should be available for a good while yet, so perhaps go with your gut here and add a white Speedy at some later point, when the urge becomes irresistible.

You like what you like. You've already got the most important part down. Getting the watch that you love. You can always get the white dial later on. I think it's going to be around for awhile.

As a curiosity , I tried that on as well. Always thought I'd hate the escape valve, but on the wrist I thought it was barely noticeable. Its a beautiful piece in white.

Congrats, the black dial one looks great! When I got my White Dial Speedie, already had my Japanese Racing Dial and Straight Writing 69 ones so it fit into my collection well. If I didn't have the other ones, would've had more of a decision to make since always liked the legibility of the black dial.

Also, was taking an Alaskan cruise for my birthday and the sales guy at the local OB was able to get me one of the first ones a couple weeks before I left.

The white speedy is only so hyped because people have loved the original black speedy for so many years.

No way the black one could be the wrong decision among the two, its ultimately what you prefer and it sounds like you made the right choice.

I鈥檓 sure I did 馃槉. Wore it out of the AD, kept looking at it walking down the street. Extremely legible even without my glasses. Couldn鈥檛 be happier. As a bonus, wears a bit smaller than my speedster 57 did, I鈥檓 sure that鈥檚 due to the slightly smaller lug to lug. Thank you for replying!

Personally, I don't care for the new white dial. It's too white, almost stark. It's kindof dull.

The new black stepped dial is well-done. I have an 1861, but view the new 3861 dial as a nicer dial. Not enough that I need both the 1861 and 3861, but I would likely have chosen the black dialed 3861 if it were my first speedy.

Still, there's no right or wrong answer, just different tastes.

Strange post anyway to call itself stupid for buying the most (and by far) know and collectible watch ever...

The white one is not such a good idea to my mind. Not that it's ugly but again a way to have in future years a green one, a blue one, a X-men Yellow Wolverine one, etc....

If you have the money and you like the watch, buy it. Tomorrow it will be more expensive.

I find your experience relatable and I always tell myself to trust my gut. it鈥檚 happened to me several times where I鈥檝e had my heart set on a watch and then for some reason, when I try it on, it doesn鈥檛 resonate with me the way I expected, so I moved on
