Alternatives to the Speedy Tuesday LE

Here's a reason - It's the first production black/white reverse panda dial speedy in Omega history.

Another is that means the watch is far more visually striking and unique than either the silver snoopy or the 60th anniversary.

Here's another - it also has a host of other features that are tailor made to drive collectors wild: appliqué logo, vintage crown, vintage script, radial subdials, brushed case, vintage buckle. The others also have nice details but none have quite so many as the ST.

Personally I couldn't care less how it performs on the market, or how the other watches do, nor do I much care to face off three nice watches against each other. But I think there are plenty of reasons, and plenty of reasons already expressed by many people on this thread and in the wider forum to justify why the ST is expected by many to be the hottest new Speedy in years, if not ever.

I was going to reply and list out my personal reasons for finding the ST as awesome as I do. However, @N1CK aptly listed them all out very well! Ergo, I'll simply state "+1" to everything he said.

The only thing I've noticed is a user: jdm_si disappeared a month ago after trolling about the snoopy vs ST. And Speedy 60 vs ST... now mysteriously a new individual started trolling the same thing.

Coincidence or just the same troll?

Hold on...slow up...I just got here. Can someone tell me what the hell happened?
Yeah, some dude asked a sensible question about which panda/reverse panda he should buy instead of the Speedy Tuesday, or ST for short. Initially, he got a good run of decent answers and it was enjoyable reading. BUT, as usual, someone got personal and the bun fight started which went on for pages. The new ish guy got pasted from all directions, as is frequently the case these days and it all got boring very quickly. I don't know how it resolved, because I decided to tap out on page 6 of 11, having felt like I'd wasted the last 10 minutes of my life.

Ok, I lied. I really did try to tap out at page 6 having posted my reply to Mr Bob, but find myself here at Page 11 of 11

Thank you. I was beginning to lose my faith in humanity.

I don't know if you're being obtuse, or you enjoy pulling people's chains, but there have been some spirited exchanges, which on balance were mostly fun, and you got hammered from all sides and repeatedly came up off the mat pretty much unscathed. So you get credit for that. Plus, you haven't referred to the group as "Pratts!", have you?

OF members, I really don't see that there is anything more to discuss with @speedolex ref. the ST's future price point.

My POV: I love the photos of the ST (reserved) and my intuition, based on other LEs released in the past + enthusiasm on the OF, other internet media for this LE, indicates that it could be a desirable watch in future. I will purchase the ST not as speculation for future resale but purely because I like the watch. Living in Rio I do not have access to a reliable/secure grey or pre-owned market. Based on this restriction I have had to purchase my current watch collection all at retail price, so I could not care less if the ST is going to be cheaper in the grey market or pre-owned post release, as I do not intend to flip it and I would still have to buy retail, even if it did price-dip post release on the grey and pre-owned market and became available at OBs, similar to the CK2998 last year.

Speedolex has stated a completely valid point (I do not agree with it): he believes that there could be an expectation bubble for the ST LE and that it might not follow the expected trajectory price valuation post release that some in the OF members have stated. He has used some arguments based on the the Snoopy edition which are questionable, but essentially he has the right to express the opinion that the ST might not be a high-value LE in the future. He stated that this argument is clearly only an opinion and not a scientific fact, although he believes his professional marketing experience does give more weight to his "hunch"...again speculation and we can choose to agree with him, reconsider our opinion or not.

So can we get back on topic and see more photos of reserve panda alternatives?

What is reassuring is that in 18 to 24 months we will actually know about values, and all the rampant and articulate speculation will just be another footnote.

I know this is a little off-topic (I am a stickler for that) but for what it's worth about why the ST could have added value for some...

In 2009, at my age of 30, my grandmother passed away and she very kindly left me with a modest inheritance. It was not enough to make a financial impact on my life so I wanted to use it wisely to maximise its impact - safely, respectfully and meaningfully. I had never owned a Swiss watch before because I was one of those 'I can just use my phone' and in my neck of the woods, Swiss watches are used as obnoxious status symbols - further alienating me and others I connected with.

However, in my peripheral view, I knew about history which gave me an open mind when it came to the significance that some watches had when they were needed. After a few whole years of research and searching, I found the watch I wanted - it was a mint pre-pro, pre-moon Speedmaster 105.003 which I could just about afford with her money. (Which I now know was a serendipitous time for their affordability).

In fact, this is the article that tipped me into settling for that specific reference:
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/just-because-an-omega-speedmaster-reference-105003-ed-white

I'm sure I speak for many in my age group or demographic or even psychographic when I say that if it wasn't for the way the nascent watch blogging community had connected with me at that time and helped me understand these values I wouldn't be an Omega or even Swiss watch owner. Vintage or new. Period.

TDLR: Putting my marketing cynicism aside, I see how the Speedy Tuesday is a respectful, manifest representation of that online tipping point that invited and encouraged many like me to join the fold. For that reason alone, the Speedy Tuesday has potential future value, in addition to its other positives and negatives. I am not a Speedmaster special edition owner nor did I reserve an ST but I will be watching it specifically because of this.
