If anybody's got a contact at Hodinkee, I'd appreciate them reaching out and putting me in contact with them. But they don't really do much stories about things like this - they focus more on new watch releases, industry news and on very high end / celebrity collectors. Robert-Jan at Fratello did reach out to write a story about it though so it is at least out there.

Again, thank you to all of you who are sharing, keeping an eye out, making suggestions, and offering thoughts of support. It really does mean a lot to me.
Did you talk to Ariel over at ABTW? I can dig out his email if you need it.

Just bumping this up to keep it fresh in people’s minds as we enter a new month and soon a new year. Wishing you the best.

Thanks, really appreciate it. I think the watches are long gone by now but the serials are registered and I'll be keeping an eye out in the years to come.

What a collection. I hope you have them insured, which would bring a little bit of relieve.

Impressive thread exhumation....dug up after 5 years!
Still since we are here, does anyone know if the OP had any luck recovering any of his collection?
Or did the scumbags win again?

Most likely revived by a hijacked dormant account, now trawling the WTB section pinging members that they have what they want if they just wire the money to their friend.
I guess a new scumbag posted in the wrong thread.

No sign of them sadly 🙁 I still hold out hope that something will show up at an auction house someday. And every time I see a Speedy Tuesday or Ultraman posted without its original box and papers I get my hopes up, but no joy.

I don't want to keep bumping the thread as it's been 4.5 years now but hey, if someone wants to revive it and it brings more awareness that could lead to recovery of even just one of them, I'd be grateful.

Yes it could be a scam but also someone who’s had an account for a long time, not particularly chatty but now looking to sell watches like many people over time, and maybe stumbled upon this thread as they’re trying to get the lay of the land on specific watches they’re looking to sell.
Caution is always essential, but don’t throw the potential baby with the bath water.

This. Perhaps there is no "scam" here with a hijacked account as JWRosental suggests, but boy do I hate scammers. People with no moral compass who are too lazy to get a real job. In my area we're having a real problem with organized "for profit" panhandling teams that have members stationed at most highway ramps and major intersections. They are always there during the morning and evening rush hours with hand lettered cardboard signs. I've noticed that they work in shifts. The busiest intersection that is closest to my office is always "staffed," but the members come and go -- never the same person in the morning as there is at noon or at the end of the day. I happend to pass by the "change of shift" on a particular day and noticed that that the morning guy was picked up by someone in a new car while the afternoon person, a woman, was dropped off. It's also interesting to note that these professionals are never present when it's inconvenient. If it's raining, snowing, too cold or too hot, they're gone. When present, they're a major traffic hazard. These panhandling rings have been investigated numerous times, but are rarely prosecuted. The worst part of it is that people still stop and give to them and it diverts money that might otherwise by given to legitimate organizations that assist those in real need. It's disgusting.

Ah yes the begging panhandling racket, the best way to help people in genuine need is not to give them money, but to buy them a meal, the scammers tell you they don't want it.

Just read the 14 pages. Wow, insane collection and can't imagine how the OP feels to this day still.

I live in Colombia and I can see how someone can easily take a short flight from Miami with watches and sell them here to a pawn shop. No one at pawn shops check serial numbers, nor even know the importance of it. Hence, why I only buy from AD's here or import from reputable dealers in the U.S. and Japan. Probably will only still to AD's now. Just read a few weeks ago on Reddit how someone had his VC Overseas confiscated after purchasing a 50,000-reviewed seller from Japan on C24. Turned out to be a stolen watch with the serial number at the Service Center.

I’ve been seeing these signs lately a few towns over. They make a lot of sense to me 👍

About 25 years ago I was doing a job up in Sydney. I was heading across town and noticed a panhandler (pretty hard not to notice a scruffy bloke in a dirty coat and no pants!) anyway when I got across town about 15km away I saw him there there too. Not a bad effort to for a derro with no money or pants to get there before me!

If you’ve never tried it, you’d be surprised how much a pair of pants can slow you down
