If you’ve never tried it, you’d be surprised how much a pair of pants can slow you down
Glad you’re getting out and traveling, Dave. People even recognize you in Sydney!

If I'm asked to take my watch off I always put it in my bag and zip it up. Same with my phone.
Same here. Always put it in my backpack pocket and check immediately after it goes through the scanner it's still there.

Yup- I carry a manpurse (don’t laugh until you try it) and watch goes right in and right back out on the other side.

pretty hard not to notice a scruffy bloke in a dirty coat and no pants!
Isn't that the official outfit for a walk-about?

Up to this point, I don't think that TSA has ever asked me to remove my watch -- which would be one hell of a lot easier than removing my belt and shoes which they always ask me to do. If they did ask me to remove my watch, however, it would go in an inside zipped pocket in my laptop backpack which I always take through security as a carry on.

Regarding the professional panhandlers, I have thought about getting a stack of $5 gift cards to McD’s and Dunkin’ Donuts and giving those instead of cash.

It's a nice thought, and helping those who are truly in need is the right thing to do. That being said, donating money to a local food bank or a homeless shelter may be a better way of helping those in need than handing gift cards to strangers.

I do that too, to the local rescue mission and the Food Bank of Western Mass. The whole wheat side of me tells me to ignore the panhandlers but the frosted side says what if it’s the 1% that’s genuine. I can’t tar with the same brush.
