On that model the case maker wouldn't make much difference. Same with Dennison cased manual wind models. If you were after a birth year watch don't despair since the movement will have been made earlier so could well be from 1970, certainly the 32m serial is right for circa 1970. The movements were manufactured in Switzerland then shipped to case makers, a process that could take some time.

The London q hallmark means the watch was stamped in 1971 prior to sale, it could have been made in 1970, it wouldn't bother me personally. My example was on a 28m serial and dated to ~'69.

The stamp means the case was 'assayed' in that year, the movement may have been 69/70 so if burst year is important to you, you could get an extract from Omega to confirm. Personally I'd be happy that it's there or thereabouts.
Sounds good to me. Thank you

My only advice for a newbie is. GET OUT, get out while you still have your sanity and some savings.
Ha ha. Well I'm afraid it's too late. I'm hooked already. Sanity left me many years ago. And as regards to savings.... There are no pockets in coffins.

Out of interest, why were you sure it was a 1970 watch?

Fascinating. Thank you so much for your time and advice.

As it was advertised as such on our favourite auction site.

Well that suggests the seller didn't look at the hallmark. It may need a service.

The watch was serviced last year apparently. Although I will take that with a pinch of salt even though a service card is coming with the watch tomorrow.
I paid £535 for the watch which is about right I hope.

Hi @padders it wouldn't have been stamped prior to sale, it would have been stamped very soon after manufacture, prior to shipping to the dealer, then potentially sat in a window or box for a year or two waiting to be sold.

Splitting hairs really, just saying it's not like when we say bracelets we're often added to watches just prior to sale.

Well yes it would have been sent for stamping by Shackman. I didn't express myself very well.

Re the price, I sold mine on here for £500 last year I think so I don't think what you paid is out the way, especially if the service was legit and if you have paperwork it likely was. Out of interest, does yours have the Arab numeral dial or the stick dial?

I'm glad I paid ballpark. I haggled like crazy to be fair. Was 650 originally. It also has the original Omega gold buckle for the strap.

I will know when I have the watch in my expectant sweaty hands tommorow.
I'll post a pic then as I recall there was a marking on the underside of the buckle from the pictures.
Would appreciate yours and everyone else's opinions on that afterwards.

The buckle is a big plus if it's solid 9ct as these aren't easy to find.

The plated ones have markings too so it may be one of those, if so and genuine still a plus but be aware there are lots and lots of fakes out there.

Thanks. I'll take pics tommorow and I would welcome your thoughts. I wouldn't sell it anyway as I love watches and don't view them as money makers but pleasure givers.

By the way. When you say fakes one assumes you mean the buckle. One assumes the watch is pukka?
