Advice on this constellation

I am considering purchasing this constellation but I'm worried about its authenticity. I know there are fakes of 168.005 and the seller doesn't have that much of a reputation.

I'm pretty new to this whole thing so I'm slightly worried about getting scammed. I think the dial looks original, but I have no idea what that yellow stuff is in where the gasket is supposed to be.

What do you all think?

Hope everyone is doing well.

Who is the seller and how much is the seller asking? You also might want to do a little research on the "yellow stuff is in where the gasket is supposed to be".

I'm not an expert, but I think the overall condition is good.
Dial seems original to me. Case/Case back have been polished (but not too much IMO). Crown is replacement.
The current price is good, but a service is probably needed... so you need to include that in your offer.

Let's have some other opinions...

I am bidding on that, too.
But if you really want it, I will step back because I already have a few.
You should consider the cost of a service ($300) an original crown ($200) and an original bracelet ($250), tax and shipping cost before you click your final "confirm bid".
Good luck.

That is a kind offer, but if you step back, I hope the OP understands the value of the watch and is a serious bidder. There was a similar situation on a different sub-forum recently, where an OP brought a watch to the attention of the forum and asked for advice. Members told him that it was an excellent and rare specimen. I suspect that several members (including myself) refrained from bidding out of courtesy, and in the end, the watch went for a very good price, but the OP didn't bid because the price was beyond his budget. He apparently had an unrealistic view of the watch's value. Perhaps the OP might tell you his budget by PM, so if it is unrealistic, and the watch goes above that price, you might still have the opportunity to buy it.

It’s a good looking watch.
Not super-crisp but pretty good for all that.
nice pie-pan dial.
At $860 it would be a bargain but expect it to go higher.
BTW the ‘yellow stuff’ is a period correct gasket - so it definitely will require a service.

That is a really kind offer and I really appreciate it! After getting the okay from everyone here, I am definitely set on bidding on this. I don't have a constellation yet so I am willing to pay a premium if necessary. I'm not really concerned with reselling the watch, just want one in my collection to pass onto my kid, so my budget is pretty flexible. I will PM you my budget.

Ah thats a great idea. I understand the concern and I would hate for someone else here to miss out on the watch because of me. I am pretty serious about getting this watch, especially after getting the okay from others here. I PM'd him my budget.

Ok Hoi. Now you know his max bid so you can offer $ 1 more. 😁

Anyway, very generous gesture.

Good luck with the bidding!

Is an original crown really $200? I have a dozen or so in my parts box

Have to say, this collegiality is nice to see and one reason I’ve gravitated to this forum. I also recently bought a very nice Longines from a member (jshaw083) and it was the best experience I ever had buying a watch. On the flip side, I nearly bought a soccer timer from an eBay seller that had an issue spotted by a forum member. I brought it up but the seller just ignored me and kept the listing as it was. Anyway, the helpfulness of members here has somewhat restored my faith in humanity. Made my wonder why I kept swimming in the Ebay waters, although the knowledge provided by forum members is the only way I’ve avoided getting seriously burned.
