Advice needed for 1984 Omega Speedmaster

Hi all,

First post here. I'm looking for a 1984 Speedmaster and came across these two pieces. The one with the bracelet comes with an extract from the archives that proves it's from 1984, while the other relies on the tables available online (the serial number starts with 45). However the latter looks like it's in better conditions, but I'm no expert. Service history is unknown for both.

Do they look legit? What do you think about their conditions? Is the one with the leather strap overpolished?

Thanks for your help,
Paolo

The experts are going to want better pictures. Also photos that show both the movements and the caseback interiors of both examples.

You also don’t state what seller is asking for both watches. The extract is nice, but I wouldn’t base my decision on that alone. You can order one from an Omega boutique for 150.00 USD.

From your images, both cases look over polished, but, I’m not the expert you are reaching out to in the Forum.

I cant quite work out exactly when the cut over happened, but pre 1984 “neo-vintage” speedies generally had lime green lume ( like your second example on the strap) and after that a more vintage looking cream/yellow lume ( like the first example on bracelet you show)

not sure if you have a preference, but its something else to consider

both cases above look polished to me - so i would continue the search

my Jan 1883 green lume example for your reference below

Thank you all for your replies. Here are some pictures of the movement and caseback of the strap one.

In terms of prices, they are both asking around CHF 4,500 which I reckon is a bit too much.

@Sherbie, very nice Speedy you have there! Any suggestion for what I should look for in the "right" one?

Only you can decide what you are looking for, and what sort of watch speaks to you, i’m afraid.

My advice would be to keep looking at respectable Dealer sites - Davidoff brothers, HQMilton, Tropical Watch etc.

Davidoff Bros always seem to have neo-vintage Speedies for sale ( post 1980) and you have piece of mind.
