Hi guys, I am thinking of buying this Speedmaster.

I just want to make sure it all checks out. The seller is asking $4,000 USD.

It is claimed to be on the original 1171/1 bracelet 633 End Links.

So I am just wanting to make sure the dial, handset and bezel insert also look original to the watch.

Still trying to find out when it was last serviced as obviously this will have a great bearing on the final sale price.

    Hi!

It looks all original to me. Nicely aged dial too. Compared to my own 145.022 CRS, the lume on the hands is rather white. These could be Service.

Hard to say whether the bracelet and end links are the factory original ones. Close ups of the clasp and end links would help determining that.

Out of curiosity; what makes you pinpoint this one to be an 1984 example? 47xx serials like these could be a few years ‘younger’. My 47133xxx came back as 1985. Only an extract could give certainty.

    Good luck on your decision!

Hi, the Serial is 47333xxx, the seller thinks its a 1986 Speedmaster, but from checking around quite a few sites state its a 1984. My intention would be to obtain an extract for this.
I will ask for some close up pictures of the bracelet and end links. I definitely want to be sure this watch is as original as possible.

If an extract has already come back for 47.13 as 1985 then I wouldn’t expect 47.33 to be earlier. Eugene’s website has that serial at Oct 85

All looks Ok for a 80’s Speedmaster.

the lume mentioned sometime the photos and live colors are difficult to represent in my own experience.

The only thing with that serial number I would put my money on a 1986 and not a 1984.
Ask for an extract in advance before you buy it if the seller agrees.
I just got a 1985 extract and is serial 4687...
And previously tried to purchase one that the owner was super nice and asked for and extract and turned out to be Feb 1986 with serial 4713..

I wouldn’t trust much on the sites.

Good luck anyways and a photo of the clasp could help.

The seller confirmed the chrono hand is a service hand.

    Here are some bracelet pictures.

Is 4kUSD for this a reasonable price or should I haggle?

That could very well be an original bracelet indeed. Doesn't appear Service to me. Please do note, though, that the value of an 1171/1 is a bit limited compared to the 1171.

Looking at the watch as a whole, I struggle to believe that only the Chrono hand is Service, compared to my own, the lume of the other hands is rather white too. Other than that, it appears original and in a rather good state. The bezel can be considered reasonable, but could be better.

Then concerning price; as @The Father says; always haggle. 4000 USD for this watch is certainly not a bargain, unless it was very recently serviced and proof of that exists. Also, I would advise you only to buy this in case you'd be just as happy with owning an a 1985 or even 1986 watch as you would be with a 1984 specimen. Looking at all input in this thread so far, it is safe to assume that it likely is a bit more recent than initially anticipated.

The price yes you can bargain a bit but overall is not bad.
But if you are looking for a 1984 I think this is not the watch for you.
Or ask for an extract and offer to pay it extra if it’s a 1984.
    Won’t hurt to ask.

Thanks, I honestly dont mind what year this watch is from. Any year from the mid 80's is a good year.

Reading this through, its not clear that you specifically want an '84 (birth year perhaps?), indeed you haven't said as much, so whether its 84/85/86 etc may well be completely irrelevant. And unless you want this specific reference, and are really just after a nice, honest tritium 861 Speedy, then really anything up to circa '96/97 would fit the bill, and be a fair bit cheaper.

As others have alluded to, hands look very white, fine if you're happy with that, but personally I like my vintage pieces to look vintage, i.e. some nicely aged tritium plots & hands. But ultimately, if you like this example, and you're happy with the price, then go for it (after haggling a little, of course!).
