Dears- I have been wanting to buy a vintage omega for quite some time and I’ve now found something I really like. I started following this forum as well as browsing other sources. This made me realize I’m still missing few information before going ahead. still wanted to share with you the Seamaster I would like to purchase. I apologize in advance for the pictures. Lot of details are missing. I’ve requested already more to the seller, asking to see the movements and the serial number. Info I have so far - prod year 1960 - cal 565 I will add picture of the movements as soon as I’ll receive them bottom line What am I missing here?
I’m sorry to say that you’re absolutely right to check this out. Sorry because there are a number of issues. First, a 565 movement is a date movement and this watch clearly hasn’t got a date window. Second, you need photos of the caseback inside, and the actual movement. That will give OF members a chance to see if the case is compatible with the movement. The case has certainly been polished. Other OF members will give you a view on the dial - which looks almost too good for a 1960 watch and, although it is outside my expertise, I’d want reassurance that the hands and crown are appropriate. Obviously, if it’s a bargain, and you’re hoping just for a nice piece of arm candy, you’ll have to make your choice but, like you, in your position I’d also want to know more.
Pictures look like the seller wants a lot of money for it... We had a 1961 Seamaster today https://omegaforums.net/threads/new-purchase-1961-seamaster.122701/ with the correct coathanger s in 'Seamaster' This 'S' on the OP watch is a later one so maybe the dial has been changed or it is repainted [edit: or the watch is not from 1960 but from around 1965 on] Please wait until you get more feedback on it!
thank you spruce! I checked the database on the Omega website and I wasn’t able to tie this model to any of the results I got from the research. this one looks very polished and clean. It’s also something that made me wonder. thank you for our input!!
Appears to be a dealer-prepped watch with the usual over-saturated photos. Even without knowing the asking price, I can guess it will be at least 2x market value.
