Dear Community

I might have the opportunity to purchase a Seamaster from the late fivties.
However, I'm not experienced with vintage watches at all and would very much appreciate your help.

Basically my questions are the following:

- what do you generally think about the watch?
- Spotting anything suspicious?
- what would you say is a fair price for this piece?
- How many hours does a service of a watchmaker for such a piece usually need (roughly)

The dealer says the watch was last serviced 2018 (no further information about the condition however)

Thank you very much for your feedback,
Oliver

A few thoughts.

1. The crown is wrong for the reference and the buckle is too new - not necessarily big issues.
2. I would insist on getting thorough evidence of any work done on the watch. The movement looks dirty with debris all over and the rotor has serious wear, which means that unless it has been fixed during the service, it is currently slowly disintegrating the movement.
3. I don't see any red flags on the cosmetic side of things, but the black dial is very aged, so any premium for it being black would be inadvisable. Many, myself included, would much prefer a clean, bright dial to a heavily aged black one. Your photos of the dial is not the best, but has the lume gone from the hands?

I can't help you with pricing, as I am not in the market for one of these - nor would I consider it due to the condition. I don't understand your question re. hours of servicing.

This Watch was for sale on Ricardo in the past, and this guy bought it up. I don't believe the bs Story about a Service been done in 2018, the previous Seller didn't mention it and it was sold in 2019-2020. He measures it at 34mm and states 36mm. And the asking price is a joke. Search for something better.
