That's a Patek Philippe Jahreskalender - years calendar ? - 5396G, isn't it?
Congratulations to your Dad.
Could it be we have another member from Berlin now? Your avatar looks very specific, welcome 😀

Concerning the Patek, no advice available from me, sorry!

Hello all,

Not a WTB - I have been tasked with finding a PP for my dad who has decided after 60 odd years he wants his first watch. His requirement is either SS, WG or platinum and a 40mm+ case size. He is open on budget but would prefer to buy second hand.

I was wondering if other members have bought PPs second hand, and if so was it through a dealer / private sale / auction? Most of the private sales I have seen on watchrecon tend to be in the US ( we are UK based). Or is PP a brand that should just be bought through OBs?

Cheers,

Rory

It's not easy to give you advice as we do not know how he intends to use his watch. If he intends to use it outdoors as well then I would suggest that he looks at the Aquanaut and the Nautilus series. Also does he need a chrono function or is he just looking at a date only watch?

Chris, we've covered this before - he would actually have to read the thread to know that, and NOBODY reads anything anymore. 🙄 😜

..... except Andy / STANDY, which is why he won the Reading Comprehension award for June. 👍

For this kind of purchase, either opt for an AD or a trusted dealer. Especially when it is his first watch purchase. I'd advise him to narrow the models down as there really are countless of PPs to choose from. This will also help you get an idea of how hard it is to get the watch, how long it takes (for example the Nautilus) and whether or not an AD or a dealer is the best alternative.

Dude, the OP has already bought the watch - a 5396G - back in June.

It doesn't matter. @MillenniumW has been bumping old threads, and adding vapid commentary for days, in what one can only assume, is a march to 200 posts, and therefore selling privileges.
Do ya think? Who would be that silly just to bump up their post count 😉

A Lange & Sonne you can buy for 20 Euros at a "beach AD" in summer holidays.

That's a Lange & Söhne 1815 in white gold - bad pics of a nice watch.

It would be helpful to know what's the model number of this 1815. The original, that I owned was 36mm and the newer versions are 40mm.
Obviously boxes and or papers will add significant value. Keep in mind that a service before you wear it would be well advised.
I had my original 1815 serviced in New York by Alkis@SwissWatch. At the time he was the Lange authorized repair in the US.

Orginal clasp, no box or papers 40 mm.
As I'm sure you're aware there's one similar to this, 233.026, with original lange strap and 18kt. tang buckle on the Bay for $15k.
However there's an original 1815, 206.029, complete with B&P, original Lange strap and 18kt. tang buckle on the bay for $14,950.
The original has the more unusual blue dial. If I was holdin' better I'd make an offer for this one while it's still available.

I'm guessing that your pawn shop is also aware of what's currently being offered for one like they have so expect to pay a similar price.
