I’m with you there! Still waiting to find a nice size 10ish pocket watch worthy of all the work a formed strap would require

I had five weeks of vacation. Burning off excess time before I retire! I made a few straps. Some turned out horribly wrong, others not too bad. Some went to our OF members too! And one member gave me two framed Rolex ads in exchange. They (the Rolex ads! Photos cut my text!) are on display in my gym! Along the way I repaired a Louis Vuitton box. I used linen tape and white wood glue. This could work on outer watch boxes I suppose. Here are photos. They will be all scrambled thanks to this iphone.

These straps are getting pretty fancy, Steve. 👍

BTW, the source of the Ferragamo leather made me chuckle.

Ah, I get it now, you repaired the Louis Vuitton box - I was thinking you’d used a Louis Vuitton bag to make some straps 😵‍💫

I was wondering that myself. I bet that was an intricate repair I have never seen such a box but I would imagine the leather is very fine.

The LV box was huge. It held this hunting bag (see photo). Although I suspect these would never see blood or feathers. They retail at CDN $4400! The box is a thick cardboard with some type of outer covering. Much like a hardcover book (I still read books!) and dear @Syrte here is the photo you requested of that green strap!

Those one-piece straps are amazing! Here is one of my watches on a strap from @Duracuirfor that I traded the framed Rolex ads for. He has both of the advertised watches and I have neither. The black one-piece nato with blue stitching that I got is ear marked for a black dialed Tudor big rose that is currently out for service. I will post a photo when it comes back in a few weeks.

The 30mm Invar has been serviced and looks great on the Bundt.

I got this one from the watchmaker at the same time. It is an Elgin 571 calibre, 21 jewel, 8 adjustment railroad watch.

How to make a bund strap, sort of…

I found this Smiths braille watch at a local antique store this summer. The dial layout makes it wear small on the wrist, so I thought a bund strap might suit it well.

What I needed to make a bund strap was a weekend like this…

And also all of this…

And, I came up with this. I didn’t line the straps themselves because it seemed like it would hold up well on its own. It turns out that the leather was a bit to thin to keep a nice crisp shape. Oh well, live and learn. I also somehow made the straps way too long, it’s almost like I didn’t measure them once during construction 😟. Once I realized it wasn’t going to be a winner I started to rush the stitching. Next time I’ll keep going to do my best throughout, you can’t get too much practice at stitching! I’ll file this one as a prototype, but I’m generally pleased with my first attempt.

Me too!
I have a new to me Accutron Spaceview with a lot of green showing and have been looking for an 11/16 lug green strap.
Love seeing your progress and diversification.
I think you could make a living doing this and I know you are having some fun!
