Picked up 2541.80
I was going back and forth between that, an X-33 and a Seiko KS. The Blue won out.

Sorry I neglected to suggest this earlier. I'm wearing it right now as a matter of fact. It's hard to imagine a battery-powered watch that is more fun.

Here's a video that shows what its special complication is:

My tardy suggestion aside, congratulations on the Seamaster -- it's beautiful!

Nice - I mentioned before that I have the 2541.80 and love it (as well as the X-33 SI2 and a Grand Seiko SBGX115).

So you're well on your way to having the trio! A little backstory - I bought two of the Omega Bond Quartz for my son's birth year and gave him one for his 18th birthday, so we can wear them together. I love this photo.

I always liked the seamaster 2541.80 from Goldeneye. It was the first time I actually paid attention to a watch in a movie.
Yes indeedy, same here. The 2541.80 quartz was the first real watch I ever noticed in the movies--and it was even integral to the plot! I recently picked one up. As much as I love automatics, quartz is just so accurate. 👍 I don't care if people give me 🤮, I'll still proudly wear it. I'd honestly rather have the 2541.80 than the 2531.80 auto.

I will probably end up wearing it more than my Speedmaster. Even though Quartz may be looked down upon, it fills a place in my small collection. Nice to pick up and just be able to wear it. My next will be a Manual or Automatic and will enjoy the research and gazing at pictures and reviews. Thanks for everybody's input.

Here is what I picked up in 1989. One of the watches of Ayrton Senna of the MacLaren F1 team. TAG recently purchased Heuer watches. Still have it today.

Seiko LCD rule! Hussah bow to the wonder of 70s Seiko! Someday all watches will be made this way.

I think you made a good choice. Between my 2541.80 and x-33, there's no doubt in my mind that the SMP looks better on my wrist. The x-33 is so big, I always worry about smacking it into things. Also, repair costs should factor in--no 3rd party watchmaker is going to touch the x-33 movement, so that's at least $700 each time to go through Omega. A 1538 quarts movement though, my watch guy said anywhere from $75-$300 depending on what needed to be done.

Hi
The first expensive watch I purchased 13 years ago is a Breitling Aerospace with UTC module and I am wearing it today. Has given me fully reliable service in that time and is a joy to own and to wear. The analog UTC module adds to the watch and is, in my opinion, nicer then the new style of digital UTC. It's is a Superquartz movement so accuracy is not an issue.

BTW: My first mechanical is a Speedmaster Day Date. Love Omega mechanicals.

Both are great watches indeed. A good choice.

I have a very similar TAG, the Classic 2000 Quartz, but when you say TAG recently purchased HEUER you mean like 20 years ago in the 1990's right?

Lemania sold its shares in Heuer to TAG in 1984. I purchased a Tag Heuer in 1985 that was fitted with a bracelet marked only Heuer, possibly because they hadn't had time to produce a clasp with Tag Heuer branding by then.

And on the wrist. Probably won't go any bigger. Serial number dates it to 99.

I got my first Swiss Watch earlier this year, a Tag Heuer Formula 1 McLaren Special Edition.

Tag%20Heuer%20McLaren%20F1_zpsl3mcb7vk.jpg

It's the best watch I've ever owned and one of only 2 watches I've ever dreamed of owning. Now I've had that for nearly a year, I was looking at my other object of desire, a Omega Seamaster Pro.

Although both are great, Quartz has a real advantage day to day as it's more reliable, lasts longer and should require far less servicing. However, mechanical watches are almost art works so it's for a very different reason you choose mechanical.

Enjoy both is what I say!

Very nice. Did it come with the Nato you have on it?
I agree with you that they fulfill a different role. I know they will never have the status of a mechanical, but that's not what I have it for.
What I have learned since the short term I have been interested in horology is that I have to choose what I want. I am not in it for the long term gain and getting Limited Edition. First the watch has to speak to me and what I like and need at the time. When I first got on here, there is a lot of people that say to get the Speedy. So far I haven't. I may in the future, but not now.

I own 1 quartz watch.. Sorry for the picture quality 👎
And yes, the root beer bezel is the only reason this is in my collection. Still cheaper than the Rolex ::psy::

Thank you!

Yeah, that particular F1 comes comes with the Nato as standard. I've always loved the F1 but never really felt compelled to buy one. But at Goodwood last year, Tag released that watch and I loved the colour scheme and being a fan of McLaren, I had to buy one!

As I'm used to Quartz, owning this Tag was a wonderful introduction to Swiss design and feel but combined with a power I'm used to. Owning this has now limbered me up to going mechanical with my next purchase and the Seamaster is literally the only other watch I've wanted since I was a child. The Tag F1 was because of my love of F1 and the Seamaster was because of my love of Bond. Bond got me into watches and introduced me to Rolex, but my first ever adult (Well, I was 12!) Cinema experience was watching GoldenEye and that's where the Seamaster love affair was born!

I've loved watches all my life and when I got the Tag earlier this year, I had to pinch myself. If I get the Seamaster this weekend or later next year, I'll have to take a step back and realise how lucky I've been in my life. I seriously never thought I'll try one on in a shop, let alone own one!

Quick question, I read Omega's Co-Axial movement extends the in-between service periods from 2-4 years to 6-10 years. Is that true on the Co-Axial series of Seamasters? This is the watch I'm looking into buying.
