Hi guys New member here. Looking forward to contributing to, and enjoying, this site. I currently have a Speedmaster FOIS and a Rolex Explorer 214270. I’m attracted to the idea of having a small Omega collection, supplemented by the Explorer. I’m torn between several ideas: (1) collect a few different Speedmasters; (2) add a Bond Seamaster and maybe a 38.5mm 8500 AT; (3) abandon order and buy whatever takes my fancy. I prefer the idea of going modern, hence this forum, and want to buy sensibly to retain value (not talking investment, just retention of most of the outlay). I’m guessing there are lots of folk here that have gone for option 1 above. I would probably add a Speedmaster Professional and then one or two limited editions. What would you guys do next in my position? Cheers, Berty.
You 've made a good start with the Speedy and the Expy, both nice watches. Here is my way of thinking regarding your ideas to further your collection. Start with idea number 3. Once you 're satisfied with that, you 'll find that idea 1 and 2 are part of 3. Hope this makes sense. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
I would say that's in line with my thinking as well, modern but with retained value, there are some nice pieces out there I think with some of the LE's you would need to be on the ground floor to maximize perceived value or have it longer. I don't imagine I will sell any of the watches I purchase though, they will get handed down.
Certainly adding a diver would be a good next step, and you sure can't go wrong with a Bond. After that, something like a 38.5 mm 8500 AT would make sense, though I'd suggest considering the Globemaster instead. it's a stunning, technological wonder that is being produced in sufficiently low volumes to eventually have some collectors appeal as Omega's first-ever Master Chronometer. When and only when you have those bases covered, then by all means move on to an additional Speedmaster or two.
Find it hard not knowing age or job If your a 20yo bricklayer, 30yo banker or a 40yo neurosurgeon my reply would be different
Very similar tastes so far. A gold case dress watch. A Cartier Tank? A JLC ultra thin? Not a lot of differences in price. Otherwise, an Aqua Terra blue if you want to stick to modern Omegas.
Based on your current collection and your tendency for a 38.5mm AT I guess your preferred watch size is not bigger than 40mm. So I would recommend the new limited Railmaster 60th anniversary. It’s such a beautiful and versatile watch and looks good on bracelet, straps and NATOs.
And once you’ve got it you can continue with your collection with their sister: With a Railmaster, Seamaster and your FOIS you would have the perfect Holy Trilogy of Omega. Everything sorted then, very easy!
You’ve set the bar high already. I believe that the only 2 watches in the entire Omega collection that can compete with your Rolex Explorer are the Railmaster 60th LE and the Seamaster 300 60th LE. Both have state-of-the-art calibres with timeless designs. Forget about the rest.
I prefer the blue, but it would be a good addition. I presume you spend most of your life in a suit - the globe master will go well with it.
