Adding a link to a bracelet

I recently picked up a Gen 1 Planet Ocean on a 1579 bracelet with pin and tube links. I need to add a link and have a question. There is a directional arrow on each link. The YouTube videos I have watched show tapping out the pin in the direction of the arrow and reinserting the pin in the opposite direction of the arrow. This seems counter intuitive to me. I would think you tap it out in the direction of the arrow and then tap it in the same way. What am I missing here? Don't want to screw something up. I know my Omega boutique would do this for me but I sure would like to figure this out.

I don't have that particular bracelet, but in other bracelets I've sized, the arrow is indicating which side of the link has a hole that is large enough for the pin to fit through.

It really doesn’t matter in my experience…

No idea about your watch (or Omega in general) but many tube and sleeve attachments have two upset ridges on the tube and an offset groove on the pin. The offset groove clicks into one of the ridges (note: the ridges are on the inside of the tube). Pressing out the pin is longer in one direction than the other since the groove is closer to one end of the pin than the other.

I believe the arrow points in the direction of the short way. Of course, if you don't follow this convention when reinstalling, you can't go by it next time.
