Thank you for this treasure trove of information, @omegastar and others!

I'm looking for a buckle to match a 1960s Omega Constellation C-case (it was supposed to come with a buckle but the seller failed to provide it). This buckle appears to fit the pictures of the "older style MG" buckle in the original post. Looks nice enough maybe a bit too new/polished. Could it be genuine? And if yes, is it from the correct period?

Yes, it could be... and no, too early, depending on what country. Of course you can use whatever you want.

Allow me to add a vintage Omega buckle I purchased some years ago from a guy in Argentina.
Based on my research findings so far it seems that it was used with 33.3 chronos in the 30s/40s (see advert below) - maybe anyone on here knows more?

This similar one I just picked up from seller in Italy the markings looked good like older MG but in hand I wonder if it has been replated just doesn’t feel old. Thoughts?

The steel one is fake
Agreed. Should say “Acier Inox”, with a space between the words. Probably Asian made.

I think the the gold plated one is OK. Nothing wrong in my mind to have these replated if necessary. It’s likely the only way to get a rose gold buckle if you need it.

Thanks for the look. Glad that at least one looks ok. I see it now the misspelling on the SS one. Even worse is another that said ACIER INOX on a GP buckle!!

One more- this one rose gold also from Italy- markings look like MG early with sun logo- judging from prior remarks I think this is also probably replated, but otherwise original

These two modern style "MG" gold-plated buckles just arrived:

So (if authentic) the left one should be slightly older than the one on the right, correct?

I'm wondering what kind of (original) strap would fit the wide pin on the left one. I rarely see any contemporary leather straps for this kind of pin.

I recently got one of those in steel too, the wide pin one, so +1 to authentic

Wasn’t the sun sign another company though and not MG?

According to the first part of this thread MG used MG early and later changed to the sun sign, same maker. Thats what omegastar said

Now here’s one that I’ve come across for the first time. Stamped ‘18k’ on the underside. Interestingly shaped Ω logo - it possesses both smooth lines and sharp ‘creases’ and edges.

if it is indeed 18k, I think it is more than likely that the springbar was replaced at some point, which would not be something of a surprise.

It may be 18K gold (have it tested), but it’s not made by Omega.

You bring up a good point. For example, I have a strap with buckle that is marked both JB Champion and Omega.

Given that a lot of accessories such as straps (with buckle) and bracelets are marketed as Omega... where is that line?

I have no answer but I'm interested in what y'all think?

For buckles, there needs to be the following:

1. A statement of the metal. Usually in French, but I’ve see a few “14K” on US buckles.

2. A makers mark for Swiss made buckles. From the company that made them, which is not Omega. US made buckles will generally not have this.

3. Either an Omega symbol or the word “Omega” (generally for US buckles) somewhere on the buckle.
