What do you call this type of buckle in english (or french for that matter)?

Advantage: you flip the non-buckle strap end under the buckle, giving a clean look.
Disadvantage: requires a shorter strap with no tongue slit in the buckle end. EDIT: Am I right to assume that straps made for deployant straps will work?

I did not understand everything but I will try to answer...

On a vintage watch with 19mm lug width, the buckle size should be 16mm or 14mm. You'll not find the exact info about the buckle size on a catalog, even tody they do not advert it... The only chance you have is to find someone that was in the business 50 years ago, and who remember which buckle size it cames with.

The smaller the watch is (and the bigger the wrist is), the bigger the taper should be. So: if you have a small wrist, 16mm will do. If you have a medium to big wrist, given the watch is 35mm, i think a 14mm buckle would look better (the watch will look bigger)

The material (steel, gold plated, solid gold) should be the same than the watch case.

Just stumbled across this pic and I thought it would be good to share....

This is the steel buckle Omega is selling and using lately for the vintage reissues. I do not know if they come in gold (I don't think so?) but you can find a plater. Guaranteed original and looks period.

Better than a lot of fakes you find online!

I bought this (no I don't recall how much) and the 16mm marking is from my watchmaker.

Thank you omegastar for your incredible research and input!

I was offered this by a dealer in the same south american portal where I bought a couple of watches recently. They are also being offered for a very low price, and that is also why it caught my attention.

The "sun" marking and the word "Plaque G." match with the original post of this thread. The pattern inside the Omega symbol also tells me it might be genuine and resembles very very strongly the same kind of buckle from the OP. I don't know if it looks too new or not.

What do you guys think? Apologies for the poor fotos and thanks in advance.

Rudi

Curious to hear thoughts on this. The spring bar looks good, and the logo as well, to my eye, but the engraving, both the spacing of INOX and the sun stamp seem off...

Found this yesterday at the Manhattan market. Curious as to what watch it would have gone on and what strap....am guessing a dress Connie or SM? I assume its a 1950s period one but perhaps others can inform me...I see it on a black lizard strap with taper to 14mm sitting on a gold Constellation!

Buckle dates from late 1960’s to early 1970’s. Buckles used on classic Constellations or Seamasters were much simpler.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-...-/224207893659?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292Hi all!

Brand new to the forums, and to watches in general. Fallen in love with Connies (I’ll post up some pics of mine in the vintage Connie thread).

This is such an amazing thread, thank you omegastar!!

Just seen this on eBay and wondered what you all thought. No signature...surely not genuine?
We’re sitting on the couch here can you provide a picture?

Replica. I would want it tested also. That is not a proper Swiss hallmark.

Beware,
