Hey there!
I had a Gruen Pan Am at one point, let it go and now wish I hadn’t.
So I found this one (runs intermittently, needs a service)
But for only 129.99 US 😀
From the late 40’s I suppose

I am surprised I do not have more Gruen. I seem to have plenty of parts for such. Benruses too.

I think these are way underrated. Especially if one like the classic everyday practical look. If my old friend and mentor was correct such watches if cared for could last hundreds of years.

On a vintage Gruen, if you see "Precision" that was their best.

Darn this thread.

It made me, once again, pull out my first Guen





and realize how much I love this bagain, $100 watch.

Which prompted me to peruse the Worlds Largest Garage Sale to look at USA made 335 movemenet (I am near Cincinnati.)

Finding





Which is now on the way. At a very reasonable price.

I have not yet established my patina threshold; but it must be out there.

I almost bid for one on goodwill this week. Had a distraction related to home and yard maintenance.(*) The watch was gold colored. It went for a bit more than I wanted.

(*) probably TMI I mowed the lawn before the rainstorm last weekend. Got a tick byte that became infected. During the storm I was plastering the wall and thought I had strained something. Had to have the bugger cut out. At least I have a lot of books to distract me while laid up. I think it is more about the fantasy of looking at the listings and pretty pictures of watches. Than the actual getting of the watch.

I have been watching the Pan Am watches since you posted this. I think, everything considered about this particular Pan Am, you did get a steal. Those lugs are great.
