A comprehensive comparison thread of vintage Omega dresswatches

Dear collectors, watch enthousiasts and fellow human beings,

Vintage watches are something else.
It's either the shape and the design, the unique movement, the history or just your very own emotional bond, vintage watches are beautiful contraptions whatsoever. Although many seperate reviews exist of vintage Omegas and numerous small scale comparisons (mostly two watches compared) can be found, it is hard to get a grasp of what's really out there.

As mentioned in my brief introduction, I'm very new in the field of (vintage) dress watches. And this can be a little... overwhelming. Just searching for the 'vintage Omega dress watch' query on the interwerbs, more than 45 million search results show up. The Omega DeVille, the Omega 30, the Omega Genève, the Omega Seamaster,...

With thread I aim to both structurally gather information on which vintage Omega dress watches exsist and also to get a better overview on the similarities and differences between the different models and itirations. This, in result, meight lead to a purchase or two. Who knows!

Any personal knowledge, pictures, links to value-added websites or perhaps catalogs, forum posts, ect. are very welcome.

I’m not sure if it’s possible to create a comprehensive comparison between all vintage omega dress watches, as the sheer amount of different models is overwhelming. But I like the general idea behind this thread, so maybe one or two pictures might help:

I actually intended to post this in the vintage section of this forum. How can I (re)move this thread?

Threads are usually not removed unless there are rules broken. If you send a message to one of the moderators, they might move the thread for you, but maybe not.

That's a REALLY stunning watch. Can you provide some information about the inner working, the size, and the differences with let's say a DeVille?

35mm. The diameter of the caliber is 30mm so that's why the name Seamaster 30. Different line then the DeVille.

Thanks. It's a cal 286, you can have a look here: http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&2&2uswk&Omega_286

Maybe this article could be interesting for you as well: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-value-proposition-vintage-edition-omega-seamaster-30

You'll also find plenty of threads with tons of pictures and technical details here on the forum 👍.

Just my 1973 solid gold Genève Automatic in the original box. I suppose being 47 years old it can be classed as vintage, but it´s definitely a dress watch. It was bought in Geneva, but I have no idea what caliber it has. I inherited it from my father. It runs great, and I really love it!

Good luck with your research but I don't think a single thread will achieve your aim.

For something as generic and huge as "vintage Omega dress watches", you really need a database, or volumes of books.

It may be worth narrowing your search using existing threads then attempting to start one to catalogue your chosen reference or line.

For example we have treads on:

Seamaster 120's https://omegaforums.net/threads/my-...ers-what-to-look-for-and-what-to-avoid.38032/

Technic dial Seamasters/Geneves https://omegaforums.net/threads/lets-see-those-blacked-dialled-seamaster-companions-technics.85684/

Seamaster chronos https://omegaforums.net/threads/145-006-145-016-seamaster-chronograph-research-thread.77145/

FlightMasters https://omegaforums.net/threads/the-flightmaster-thread.36423/

Plus some already listed above.

Best of luck.

It's a nice watch but it was not considered a dress watch. Here's an advertisement of the era.

That’s a great ad! Thx for sharing.

I’d also include looking at the Omega Enthusiast on Instagram etc https://www.instagram.com/omega_enthusiast/?hl=en. He currently has a giveaway on the go too

It would be a massive and fascinating project to see this thread’s goal realized
