With a little bit of research, and a whole lot of patience and some good luck, you can score one for a much better price.

The seller, as noted, is a trusted OF member, and a solid dealer, BUT he is a dealer, and has dealer prices. Dealers, for the most part, cater to those collectors who pay the premium for their expertise and availability of product. It makes buying an expensive watch easier and alleviates a lot of stress.

A majority of collectors prefer to buy from private owners as to get better prices and not pay the dealer markup. Plus, for many, the thrill is in the hunt, and buying from a dealer is like shooting over a baited field. In order buy with confidence on the private market, you have to have the necessary knowledge.

If you are not comfortable navigating the world of vtg Speedies, then by all means buy from a trusted a dealer and pay the premium. If you are super keen on the piece, make an offer.

Good luck with your search.

Too much, you could buy a calibre 321 for that price. Even a nice 69 isnt worth that much. The 220 bezels are rare but ive seen them all over. If it had a TACH 1000 bezel then thats a different story

Not long ago I was hot for a 220 bezel. I stumbled across an unpolished, complete minus B&P, recently serviced '69 Straight Writing.
A couple of our more distinguished members have since told me that, at least in their opinion, I choose (got lucky) the right watch 😀
