3861 movement broken? *Update: Read First Post*

Still waiting for mine to surface via my AD. Original fix ETA was early November, and last I heard the AD was expecting it sometime this week. Seems unlikely at this point, so perhaps next week. At this point a week or two more doesn’t seem worth stressing over. Recently received my Breitling Navitimer back from service, so have been enjoying that while I wait.

Good luck with your newly serviced 3861. Just got mine back a eek ago and it's going back Monday 🙁
They installed the new improved bushing but still Power Reserve issues. I'll be asking for a replacement.

As it happened, the AD called right after I posted to let me know it was in for pickup. Worryingly though, bushings were not in the parts bag, only the pinion / wheel part included (no hands/bushings). Hoping the bushings were indeed replaced, so I’ll be calling Omega to see if their records can confirm.

I’d rather not have to go through this again (6 months with watch, 4 months without watch). Sorry to hear yours is still suffering issues, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on mine for a while…. Keep us posted, hopefully the AD/Omega do the right thing here for you.

Long wait indeed!
I pity everyone who had, is or has to go through this and I hope that everything will get sorted out for you all in the end.

Sorry to hear. Yeah, I’d be asking for a replacement too if they didn’t manage to fix it. Sending it out again means it’ll spent more time at the SC than on your wrist.

Happy to report that the bushings do seem to have been in the parts list, although not returned with the watch. I made a call to Omega this morning and they emailed me the following parts summary:

- MVT PART CENTRAL BUSH MAIN PLATE
- MVT PART CENTRAL BUSH AND TRAIN WHLBRID
- MVT PART CENTRAL BUSH MAIN PLATE

Unsure if that list makes sense, but happy to see bush referenced at least twice ;-)

No mention of hands, so I assume their removal was clean, and they were able to re-apply.

It’s good to have the watch back.

Hi all,
My first post here, greetings from Finland. Been eyeing Speedmaster for many many years and finally decided to get it for celebration. Got the new 3861 Sapphire two days ago and oh boy do I like it! It's my first Omega and my first proper "luxury" watch.

Unfortunately it seems that I might have this problem with the movement as well.

I think I didn't wound the watch to full initially as I stopped wounding when the crown started to get stiff and turn back on its own. Watch ran for ~20 hours very well and after that I noticed the problems with chronograph; second hand jammed at 58 sec and jammed the whole movement. When pushing the upper button the movement continued to run and after pressing second time the chrono second hand continued as well.
This didn't happen every time though, couple of times chrono stopped during first minute and some time it was able to run for 10+ minutes.

I have wound the watch properly now until the crown stops and have ran the chrono for ~14 hours now and no problems for now.
Watch keeps very good time I think, around + ~0,5s a day so far.

Do you think that this is normal characteristic for low power reserve or does it seem that I have the mentioned problems with the movement?

Hi Mikko and welcome to the forum. You haven’t wound the watch all the way. This tension you felt is a characteristic of a manual wound watch. Keep winding until until you can no longer wind it. You’ll know when that is as you’ll reach an actual stopping point 👍

Beautiful watch! I love that stepped dial

What you describe is normal when the watch is not fully wound. If you are winding it fully daily (until the crown cannot be turned anymore) and it stops like this, then it should be looked at, but if not then you are fine.

Cheers, Al

Normal, don't worry.

Thank you for answers. What is bit weird is that after re-starting the chrono from the jammed 58 sec position, it could get past that point on next turn i.e continue to run for some minutes until getting jammed again. If this is normal functioning due to low power reserve, this action should be consistent I think?

If the answers here are not satisfactory, you can take it to Omega and get it looked at.

I don't see anything unusual in what you have described.

I recently put a deposit on a 3861. This will be my first Omega and I'm very excited on owning the new Speedmaster. I'm trying to avoid having to send it back do to the bushing replacement. Does anyone know if there's a way to tell by serial number if it has the new part. My AD has one they can pull from a sister store but I'm more inclined to wait for a new one direct from Omega. Thanks in advance

Is it safe to say one coming directly from Omega would have the updated parts or still luck of the draw. I told the SA I wouldn't mind waiting a few months to assure it does. I was hoping reference a serial number but don't know if that's possible.

It's possible, but only for Omega. They know which serial numbers have the upgraded bushing, but there is no way for us to know it. If you are concerned about it wait six months and get a fresh one, most of the older versions should have been cleared through the system by then. Of course there are many who have the 3861 from the Apollo 11 series from 2019 who have had zero issues so far. Luck of the draw.

It's probably not something that affects every single watch, or else I have no idea how it got past the development stages of the 3861.
That plus the consideration of how many people with the Apollo 11 series just keep it in a safe, and how many just dont frequent watch forums. Theres probably a few affected Apollo 11s out there that we'll just never hear about.

That’s it? January and no more gripes about this issue? All fixed?
