Wearing a vintage every day is a very very good idea. Maybe even the best idea! As you already know, many are less water resistant than new watches and some may be less shock resistant. So just use basic common sense care, keep it serviced regularly and enjoy. Oh, and share some pics.
Buy a bunch of vintage watches so you can wear a different one every day for a week! (or two weeks. Or three weeks. Etc)
I wear mine regularly! As long as they are properly serviced, you should be able to enjoy wearing them another 50+ years.
I say vintage every day you can. Meaning, don't wear it to the beach, the pool, the rodeo, the gym, etc. For routine, day to day situations you should be ok if you use a little common sense. Wear it and enjoy.
Another vintage lover here. I would say that as long as you have it serviced at regular intervals and maybe take some extra precaution in terms of not getting it wet, you will be well served wearing one as your daily watch. That said, I do not wear my vintage pieces every day. But that is not because they are not up to the task, it is because I am a clumsy and accident prone individual and wearing them during my daily activities is a risk to their safety
What is a new watch? I have heard about them, and these mystical places called boutiques and ADs where you can get them, but I have yet to encounter one.
Depends on your definition of when is a watch vintage! My newest watch is from 1989, and by some people's definition, these are vintage, if not antique. On the other hand, my oldest antique wrist watch is a 1915 Rolex! 101 years old! I am always wearing watches that are either vintage or antique, but I seldom wear any particular watch for more than a few days, and never when I am doing something that might endanger one. The 101 year old Rolex, my 1927 Rolex dress model, my Rolex Prince Observatory from 1933? Never for any longer than it takes to photograph it on my wrist!
Don't tell anyone, but I think I became vintage a few years back. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/401383385513988644/
Wear. Enjoy. I have 5 in my current rotation all dating from early 60s to mid 70s and wear them every day. I buy vintage watches and cars/motorcycles to enjoy not just to say I own them.
If I can't or don't wear it I have no reason to keep it. I wear vintage every single day, I take no special precautions other than I don't dive with them....hell I don't even dive who am I fooling? ...but I don't swim or shower with them on.
I wear only vintage daily. As the others say, a little extra precaution, but otherwise, they are meant to be enjoyed. I think about my vintage military watches - whatever I throw at it (from behind my Excel spreadsheets) is a lot less risky than the action they originally saw. Best regards, Patrick
The two watches I wear the most are both vintage speedmasters, they are both of my 105.012-66s. I do nothing special with them. They are speedies. They are tough watches.
I only wear vintage, I wear every watch I own and if I don't wear it I sell it, harsh but completely true I wore my calibre 28.9 prototype drivers chronograph to do the weekly supermarket shop and pootle round town on Saturday and since then I have worn by Ed White for everything from going to the park with my son, to the gym, to decorating the babies nursery. Watches were made to be worn. The only watch I have ever been nervous about owning was my calibre 1500 elephant prototype, primarily because whilst it worked perfectly and kept 1 second per month accuracy they only made 5 and the movement shared no parts with the production watch. Eventually the worry of it dying made me rethink what was best for it and it now sits in pride of place in the museum collections at STS in the UK.
A couple of months ago I thought patina was a pizza topping. Tomorrow I'm hoping to be the owner of my first vintage watch. This place has a lot to answer for.
