3592.50 (Apollo XI): Kind Request for Valuation Assessment

Good morning, afternoon and evening to all you fine humans!

For those who can spare a minute of their expertise, I'm currently looking to buy my first Speedy. I had considered a 145.012 which turned out to be not worth half the asking price. (Many thanks to the fine folk here for their help on a separate thread.) I was then thinking about saving myself the hassle of finding a decent and well priced pre-Moon and waiting for the new 2021 sapphire Speedy to drop at a local AD. I do prefer a display case back as I'm a fan of both the function and aesthetics of the Speedy movements.

With the Ed White outside my budget, I have come across a watch that ticks my big boxes of a warm vintage vibe, a closer connection to the OG as well as a display caseback. This being a mid 90s specimen of the 3592.50 Apollo XI which is hesalite and has a display case back showing a gold plated 863 cal.

The ask price is approx USD4K and I wanted to get your respective thoughts as to whether it's a fair deal. I have a mortgage and a family to feed and in any case do not like being on the side of a bad deal. 🤦

Some things worth noting...
Dial: Looks OK and the lume is showing up as pretty even (see the lume shots towards the bottom). Ignore the seconds sub-dial as the watch was running when the photo was taken.
Hands: Cracked lume on the minute hand (i.e., not mould thankfully) but there is still lume and is consistent with the hour markers.
Bezel: In good condition. Not certain if it's authentic/original so would be great to get a confirmation. Noted that 'Tachymetre' is not accented.
Case: Looks OK. Apparently two original polishes on the case. Shape and definition of the lugs look pretty good to me.
Bracelet: Period correct 1479 matched with 812 end links although there is some stretch (see picture below)
No box, papers or archive extracts. However, it's an established dealer with a shop which offers a 1 yr service warranty.

Many thanks in advance!

I see more and more of these models in the 5-6K range. For this one, 4K seems reasonable to me as the bracelet looks a bit worn out and the lugs might have been polished.

Hi @Wozwoz

First off; appreciate the fact you've made a first assessment and shared that in your post. Well done!

Price-wise, this indeed seems to be quite fairly priced as pointed out above by @Steve26 . Comparing to other 3592.50 with Tritium dials, I would say it is almost cheap. There aren't that many for sale, but here's another one for sale to compare with:

http://www.db1983.com/vintage-watches/omega-speedmaster-359250-open-back-18j-1996?imageID=0

Note that the caseback of the watch you mention is an Apollo XI, whereas this watch has a later caseback (Professional Yellow). Probably an early 90s watch and earlier than the one DB1983 is currently offering for sale.

Back to 'your' watch: the dial looks nice to me, so does the bezel. The case appears a little soft in the pictures, but not terribly so. Cracked lume in the hour hand does not have to be a major problem, but I would personally have it stabilised from behind to avoid further loss and pieces ending up potentially blocking the movement. Bracelet stretch does look very reasonable.

Personally, I would definitely consider buying it at the 4K if you're planning on wearing it as a daily wearer, even without a known service. What's the service history like?

Good luck on your decision!

I fully agree with accurate previous posts.
Seems a very fair price.
I love this ref. ("Baby" ref when I compare to one of my grails, the 3450808 gen1...).
Always very very tough to evaluate the polishing level of the case with these pics.
Pics without the bracelet, like that, would help:

I had to pay a few hundred more than you for my 3592. Mine does have original box and is a little older. But still I think you’re getting a good deal. I researched mine for months and never saw one below 4K USD in that condition. Go get it! Good luck!

@MtnMarine thanks for sharing. I'm looking for a similar era Speedy, would you mind sharing approximately how long ago it was that you bought your 3592 and if it was a private sale, online platform, or brick & mortar jeweler?

Good choice of model in the 3592.50, and everything looks to be in order. The price is good. But I'd suggest that before buying, have a long think about whether you're happy to live on a daily basis with the cracked lume in the minute hand. I've had watches like this before and it's driven me crazy! And you might have difficulty sourcing decent tritium hands at a fair price, if you end up deciding to swap them out.

I bought mine May 2020. From Tambowatches.com
I had bought a seamaster 200m auto from him the year before.
Came with box, no papers
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I’ve posted this before but this thread needs more pics!

Mine says "Hi!" Love it, and this is what, for me, kicked this obsession in to high gear! I'd say at $4K, you've found a decent deal. Also note, links for this bracelet are pricey...make sure it fits, or you should probably begin your search for extra links now!

Good day,
For what I see looks a good deal, like many other already said, considering the conditions from the pictures, it’s a good deal as this model is getting more and more attention for its features

Thank you @Steve26 @Aludic @befobe @MtnMarine @machamp6650 @Syzygy @trioli_l for the feedback! I picked up the watch yesterday and this proud and happy owner is enjoying it on a leather strap... It was previously owned by a man who had bought it on an overseas trip with his then girlfriend and now wife and had decided to trade it in the shop for a Rolex Datejust. Definitely my gain! Have a great weekend all.

I think I recognize that strap. Accurate Form from Japan isn't it? Watch looks great. Congrats!

Well done! I am sure you've got the better part of the deal. I wouldn't even doubt a purchase like this for a second. Enjoy!

Custom made for the shop but they were coy on even the country of origin. I got a discount with the watch which as mentioned came with the OG bracelet so I'm not too fussed. Originally wanted a tan coloured strap but olive seemed less obvious yet versatile. I don't know much about straps and Accurate Form is new to me but I did live in Japan for a half a decade and was where I bought my first mechanical watch a IWC chrono over 10 years ago and love their culture of craftsmanship and respect for classic design.

I see. 'Cause I did buy one from Accurate Form (https://en.accurate-form.jp/collect...ts/jpcowhide-graybrown?variant=32602302840964) due to the interesting tight stitching, very similar to yours. Love it.

So, you bought it with the steel band or left it in the shop for a discount? Nice Speedy ! Kind regards. Achim
