Watchmaker is finished. Came out pretty nice.

Glad I got a new crystal. For a minute, I thought about keeping the original crystal. After seeing all the gunk that got accumulated I will always get a new crystal from here on out.

Still waiting on end links before I bring it home. This really is a great reference, old dial with great 861 movement. Thanks to all the accumulated wisdom of the members who did the research over all these years. I never would have known about this reference or what to look for.

Here's a thank you picture from my walk with the dog a few minutes ago. Kindof sums up this thread.

Oh, a special call out to @eugeneandresson who set me straight on condition over set. His honest advice started me on this thread. Cheers!

Congratz are you trying to source the correct DON and bracelet as well?

Nice watch, but doesn't have the DON bezel and the "flat feet" Crown...
The band should be a 1039/516 or alternatively a 1116/575.

Cheers

Probably not. This had been serviced several times, which is likely how the bezel and crown changed. The crown and bracelet are accurate for the 145.022 period, but not correct per MWO bible. Some people have reported having this crown on other -68s. It's possible that it came original. We know that the factory grabbed parts from bins and the dealers sometimes grabbed bracelets and boxes when selling new. There's alot of "as far as we know" when it comes to vintage pieces.

Regardless, I am okay with it as is, and perhaps more so than if it had the correct DON ( although I would have like it if it had the DON. ) I know the original owner and know that he received it as a present from his parents. Everything on the watch (except crystal) came from him. One of the things we search for is authenticity, which is why we want the correct parts for a reference. Is the watch more authentic with a DON as it came from the factory or is it more authentic to keep the bezel that the original owner had on it? My gut says keep what's on it now. Plus, the bracelet is flat and pretty comfortable plus vintage.

Bottom line, it works for me. I entertained the same thoughts about looking for those parts but decided not to, at least for now.

If you are happy with it, we all will be happy.
I personally own a one owner 145.022-68 that came with its DON bezel,
"flat feet" crystal and 1116/575 band.

Nevertheless I already put a JB Champion vintage band with straight lugs on it:
