I would vote ‘Tropical’ based on the sub-registers going lighter near their centers. Plus look how black the bezel is in relation to the dial.

Edit : but as usual I may be wrong...

Hey guys,

So weird turn of events.

The seller contacted me a few weeks ago (almost 1 year after this thread) and said the watch was now again for sale.

Fast forward to last week, watch landed in Australia 🥰

Took a few quick pictures before sending it off to Lewis Watch Co for some serious mechanical repair and maybe some cosmetic help depending how the dial is. But I think even with a bit of a clean and new crystal this will turn up great!

Dial has a slight brown hue, and the bezel is a lovely green in sunlight.

Gambling on dial condition under a heavily scratched crystal, one of the most fun parts of this hobby. Good luck. Keep us updated.

If you need help or parts, send me PM. Kind regards. Achim

Thanks Achim I appreciated it 👍

My girlfriend's reply was " you spent how much on that?!" 🙄

But thankfully she trusts I kind of know what I'm doing!

Tell her, somebody offered you $5000 for the lollipop hand. That might change her mind..... Kind regards. Achim

Glad you did it! I am excited to see the final result. Do you think about a relume or leave it as is?
Fingers crossed the rost damage isn't bad.

Congrats on what looks like it could be a charming watch with plenty of patina!

Dibs if you ever consider passing it on!

I wish it was the other way 😉

No awesome barn finds here 'yet'

Really? I can easily find a poor watch in desirable shape. Want to buy a near new old stock Timex?

I look forward to seeing how this turns out. Good luck.

What a great find.
The hands are interesting, I wonder if they are Radium - the way they glow bright green?
As for the lollipop - does anyone really pay $5,000 for one?
I love them,

Watch has been looked over by LWC, and Adam says the movement is salvageable, but to put it nicely was a bit of a rust bucket.

I just want to get an opinion on the dial now that it is uncased, what does everyone think? The current plots are very grimet and a bit unattractive, but are original and may look better under a crystal. Thankfully most of the print seems intact.

I'm leaning towards having the plots relumed tastefully at the moment, while trying to save the hands with only a clean (if possible). I haven't had a speedy of this age in my collection and would like some advice 👍

I think this dial should be relumed, carefully. It's substantially very nice and it is VERY RARE.

The dial is actually in good shape. No serious damage and the lume can even be saved and reused. Very curious to so how it turns out!

Me too. You have more courage than I, but what a satisfying project to take on. Please keep us posted, as I am sure many OF members would like to see how it comes out.
