We have a lot of threads for specific lines and references and I thought it would be interesting to have a place to take a look at the very first Constellation ref, the 2648....so now's your chance to post them here!

I'll start with this one, which at the moment is the only 2648 in my collection. It was a very early morning find at a watch fair and I couldn't believe it when I picked it up and felt the sharp edges of the case and saw the lovely waffley whiteness of the dial. Just exactly the kind of condition we are always looking for and it was true love at first sight 😀

My favorite Constellation reference.

One is pretty much NOS. Two have their original chronometre certificates.

Yes and no gold cap either! Hope to own these examples in the future if I can find original ones in nice condition.

Ref. 2648 has always been a personal favorite of mine for several reasons:

1. The first constellation reference and produced in small numbers. Makes for an entertaining if not sometimes frustrating hunt.

2. Wears bigger on the wrist than the subsequent references due to its thin bezel - the dial diameter is about 2mm more than that of the 2652 for instance. Because of this finding replacement dials for examples in poor shape is so very hard since the dials from all the subsequent references are too small.

3. No standardized case and dial formulations - it seems that there are examples that were "limited editions" or maybe even one off examples as Omega experimented on what configurations to produce once the constellation line became a fixture of the brand. As an example I have 9 examples of this reference with 8 different dial configurations. In an unusual coincidence the two examples with the same dial both have their original chronometre timing paperwork.
Pretty much every single piece in this reference is a limited or even unique edition before this label became a thing!

4. Hard to find in good to great original condition.

5. IMO massively undervalued as the first reference of a line that is still produced and sold today - 70 years later!

Here is one of the earlier examples I obtained and to this day about 15 years later the only one in a 14k rose gold case that I have seen though I haven't been paying close attention the past several years. The dial is also a unique one in style and with the rose gold markers. Would love to see another 14k rose gold swiss cased constellation in this reference or any of the other bumper constellation references if you have photos of them.

I share the 2648 love. I got only one, a 2648-1 from 1953, but they are on top of my collect-no-matter-what list.
I found mine on eBay, put in a relatively low bid due to the dial patina, but to my surprise I still won it.
The case is one of the sharpest in my collection.

Agreed to your post in general, but this statement in particular. The ratio of the diameter of the dial to the bezel / the overall significantly larger dial makes a huge difference in appearance.

Oh, and I love that blued second hand on your RG example 🥰

One of my favorites! Would love to own one so I can pair it with my 2517 which, if I'm correct, shares the same case 😀

Would anyone know if the dials from a solid gold case would properly fit into a steel case? I have a lovely dial and movement from a gold case, unfortunately the case is not as nice...🙁

Just to confirm, is an applied "OMEGA" incorrect for a ref. 2648 dial?

Applied OMEGA going with sharp edge logo is a no no.

I recently acquired this Fab. Suisse Constellation with a locally-sourced french case and crown. The dial looks unmistakenly like a 2648 dial to me, though.
