·Omega opened 4 pop up boutiques to showcase the Seamaster 75th Anniversary collection. They are located in Mykonos, Forte dei Marmi, Saint-Tropez and San Diego. The store in San Diego (La Jolla, CA) is about 20 minutes away from me. Today I decided to take a drive to see the rest of the collection which is not on display at the regular boutique. Not only am I fortunate enough to have one of these special stores so near me, but it happens to have the only Ploprof in the US. So off I went on my and boy, was I in for a treat!
Before I get to the goodies, I'd like to share a few things: Many have commented that the 75th Anniversary watches look much better in person than online and I found out today that this is truly an understatement. I cannot emphasize enough that pictures do them no justice whatsoever - as much as I tried different angles to capture the true details, no picture makes them look like they do in person. I will post the best of what I took but their beauty simply does not show.
As some of you know, I purchased the 75th Anniversary SMP and was the first to receive it here in the US (at least that's what I was told by my SA). I went in to see the AT and from the moment I saw it, I did not like it. Today changed my mind -the lighting is different at the pop up boutique and while still not perfect, they all looked absolutely stunning.
Upon walking in, the SA remembered me by name, from when I picked up my SMP in Fashion Valley. She had me try on the entire collection (except the Ploprof - the entire collection is available to try on, except the Ploprof - since it is the only one here, it is for display only). She also let me take as many pictures as I wanted and we spent over an hour chatting. She also discussed with me the several historical pieces they have on display behind the 75th Anniversary collection. She shared a lot of Omega history with me, as well as tips and suggestions for my current and future Omega collection aspirations.
One of the interesting topics of conversation was the new quick-release bracelets and straps on the newest SMP releases. She shared that they have been a work in progress and the first releases are somewhat of a test run to gauge how they are received. They were not added to the 75th Anniversary models in order to not delay the release. She also told me that they want to avoid what happened with the release of the mesh bracelets, for which there is still a wait list on, so they also want to prepare for a possible mass influx of orders for the quick release end links.
It was a very enjoyable time that was well worth my drive. At the end of my visit, she gave me a nice little gift.
The boutique at 1116 Prospect Street, La Jolla, CA 92037:
Without further ado, here's what is on display:
The mighty Ploprof: Unfortunately, I could not try it on.
The Ultradeep: It wears very comfortably and feels much lighter than it looks
Ultradeep's beveled link edges and clasp:
The Planet Ocean: Absolutely stunning in person and at certain angles, the ceramic dial gives it a 3D effect. That "denim" look is nowhere near as pronounced to the naked eye. Too bad they did not include a 43.5mm option - even the SA believes this was a big miss.
The heritage: I liked it much more than I thought. Made me second-guess my SMP purchase for a minute.
The Aqua Terra: Under the lighting at this store, it just didn't give me the feminine vibe it gave off when I first saw it at the original store.
The historical watches on display:
And my parting gift:
I hope you enjoyed this.
