This is so true!

And they are easy to service, any watchmaker can do it.
Yea Cal 1120 is an uncomplicated job for any quality independent watchmaker. I’ve actually seen a lot of watchmakers that own and wear 2254.50s and 2531.80s too as they’re just good affordable easily maintainable watches.

And in ebay sold listings for the UK...

weird they're not showing up here, still, not many available, people must be holding on to them, easy to see why

I beg to differ as having owned both before, the PO (42mm variant) is much thicker than the 2254. The appeal of 2254 to me is that it can maintain 40mm case size and not feel bulky for wear on bracelet. Aesthetics wise both bring different flavours to the plate, they are def attractive in their own way
Very true that the PO 2500 is thicker. Also as a past owner of a 2254 will agree it is less ‘bulky’ and the 1120 movement would be easier to service. In the end just didn’t like the 2254 bezel ring and insert design! Could have modded it as a few owners have done but flipped it and eventually got the PO. Personally I more drawn to the PO but hey different tastes and needs!

I have just looked again, and there are none for sale in the UK on C24

Do not stick solely to "2254.50" in your search query.
C24 is kind of a pain to track a watch by its particular reference number, cause c24 does not have any unified system for those numbers.

To see a full picture/full offering you prob need to set up alerts for all those "reference numbers"

Having that said, I would suggest to look outside c24 as well. Look at aggregators like 'Watchpatrol" and "Watchcharts".

Watchcharts consolidates the offers from ebay and watch foras
https://watchcharts.com/watch/403/omega-seamaster-300m-chronometer-2254-50
Watchpatrol - consolidates watch foras only.
https://www.watchpatrol.net/?query=Omega+Seamaster+2254.50

Personally, I think a purchase on the watch forum is wiser as from the budget point of view you do not pay provision which is due on c24.

Happy hunting.

Exactly my sentiments.

2245 Is a great watch that I had been after for a while and finally picked up late last year. While the numbers on the bezel tend to look comically large in photos, they don’t bother me on the wrist. Of course, I haven’t had the pleasure of trying on a 2500 PO.

This thread motivated me to wear mine this morning:

2254 was the first expensive watch I ever bought. I ended up gifting it to my brother and in 2018 I bought this one. It has been upgraded 😀 Can you spot 2 changes made? One is almost impossible to see.

The obvious one is the indices for hour markers and Omega symbol. I can't spot the other.

Yes 2230.50 dial and PO crystal with AR. Crystal sits a bit higher and it gives a bit of a retro vibe.

For those that don't know it, here is what a 2230.50 non-AC looks like before it has its (£1K) gold insert bezel swapped for that from a PO or had its dial robbed for use on a 2254...

Those are beautiful, I prefer them to the 2254 and I too noticed a while back that the 2254 had almost reached the price making it a very tempting proposition. Sadly I'm not in the buying position to take advantage of one.

Also worth noting the bezel and crystal are thicker on the 2230 than the 2254.

Regarding the crystal, that is news to me, maybe our resident watchmaking genius Al @Archer or A N Other watchmaker with access to the Extranet might care to comment. Is the crystal the same on the 2254.50 and 2230.50?

EDIT, having just looked at Cousins, it isn't completely clear but it may indeed be different!

I picked up mine (modded) in June of 2020 and paid about $1900 for it (includes the original bezel, hands, and crystal so I can swap it back at the next service) - it wasn't until a year or so ago that they seemed to jump a bit in price, part of that is probably the added expense to the seller when listing something on ebay.

When it came to scratching the sword hands itch, I opted for the Electric Blue 2255.80. Never regretted it

absolutely agree, the 'cartoony' big numbers on bezel was a common grouse for most collectors from what I gather over the years.

The 2254 is a great watch and very good condition examples are very hard to find for less than 3K these days.

jets your watch is just beautiful!

When I first got my 2254 i compared it to the blue Bond watch and found that the big numbers on the bezel insert made the bezel look narrower, witch I like a lot.

And it get me pussy!
