Hope this never happens. Fuel usage has always been a part of racing. Manufacturers need to learn to adjust. 1999 LeMans proves this point.

https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/f1-teams-agree-plan-to-cut-race-distances-2027/#

Races are going to be shorter by a couple of laps next year with the exception of Monaco.
It just feels so chaotic, how they’re approaching the rules and trying to fix things.

They know they’ve developed a fundamentally bad formula that now has billions in development thrown down it but the approach they’re taking to it isn’t going to help.

Sadly, I seem to be losing interest.

An ill-conceived car
seemingly endless rule tweaks to compensate
AppleTV
cancelled races with possibly more coming (though no fault of F1)

It's been tough to get excited...

Waah, get off my lawn

At least the next formula won't be driven by the manufacturers anymore so should be better engines.

I'm actually glad some of the races are getting cancelled. The original calendar as planned was too long for me. I like the calendar between 19-22 races.

I think it's just the mid season slump for me.
I'm hyped for a new season, watch a handful of races to see how things start shaking out and then sort of coast through summer and then get back into it towards the end lol.

Didn’t see the Gasly pole happening but I’m happy for him
I watched until Fernando ended up P20 then gave up and went to bed in disgust, I never would have if I'd known Alpine had that in them.

We might see Flavio up on the podium tomorrow for the first time in a long while, he always likes to take the spotlight himself.

It may have been the FIA mandated changes to the harvesting settings. I did not know until yesterday [*] that there are 3 harvesting allowances per race and that they change for every race. For Monza the teams can use a maximum of 7.5 MJ per lap for practice, 5.0 MJ for qualifying and 7.0 MJ for the race. So the energy available changes as the weekend goes on and the driving technique and the overall power available will change too.

Why? It seems the FIA don't want the cars to fall into "super-clipping" during qualifying because that makes them look poor on the straights. Then the power harvesting can go back to clipping/depletion Yo-Yo racing [**] for the first laps of the race.

[*] Thanks to Peter Windsor's excellent podcast.

This formula man… they need a nerd translator at the bottom of the screen during each session. The previous engines were so similar but damn it’s a world of annoyance.

Time for Ferrari to give up on this season and start focusing on 2027.
