·“Finally, mercifully, the troubled year nears its conclusion. As the [world] prepares to celebrate New Year's Eve, the mood is subdued and thoughtful. People are still getting drunk and throwing up, but they're doing this in a subdued and thoughtful manner. Because nobody knows what 2022 will bring. Will it suck as much as this year? Will it suck more? Or will it suck a LOT more? These appear to be our choices.” --Dave Barry
Hmmm, so what are your predictions for 2022?
Here are two of mine:
Omegaforum – After a successful effort to raise much needed cash to support the forum by introducing subscriptions, Trev and Ash will give all non-subscribers a new avatar. Non-subscribers will need to pay a fee to remove it.
ROLEX- Rolex will enter phase three of its long-term production strategy. In phase one, every Rolex dealer stopped selling watches. After the public became accustomed to empty shelves, they entered phase two, which was to have the Rolex dealers stock only watches with no movements. During phase three, Rolex will stop making watches all together and instead issue 3x5 inch hologram cards with photos of their favorite models.
In trial tests, Rolex fans have reacted in favor. Said one test participant, “I wish they had done this sooner! I have saved hundreds on safe deposit boxes. I no longer worry about being assaulted on the street. I just keep the cards under my mattress.” Another participant said “This eliminates our biggest fear of getting a scratch on our watch and devaluing it. No one I know wears it anyway. Now, they will stay NIB!” [Editors note: avoid coffee stains.]
Hodinkee agreed that this was long overdue. One reviewer stated, “This is so much simpler. Now, the dealer calls the next client on their list and sells them the hologram card. The happy buyer mails or takes it to his favorite watch dealer, who pays them twice as much. The dealer then marks it up twice as much again, and the investor gets their watch sooner, sometimes on the same day. With this new approach, supply chain issues are a thing of the past, as hologram cards can be produced and transported much quicker.”
Investors are eagerly anticipating phase 4, when Rolex switches from physical cards to NFT watches. “I know it’s a dream, but we did land men on the moon!” said one fan.
Hope all your dreams come true in the new year! And stay safe out there (safer, more safe? Safest ever!)
