Last week, we witnessed the introduction of the first Speedmaster for 2023, the Super Racing with its new Spirate System. The release wasn’t so much about the watch as a whole but about the incredibly precise movement. But the Speedmaster Super Racing will not be the only new Speedmaster this year, of course. Any brand […]

Thanks for your predictions, R-J, but unless you have deep pockets for a gold, platinum or skeletonized watch it looks pretty dreary for those looking for a Speedmaster that's a bit different and not produced in large-ish quantities over many years. The good times of ST1 and ST2, CK2998 LEs, Tokyo Speedmasters, etc are gone for the foreseeable future, they just don't fit in to Omega's current strategy.

Sure looks that way.

Good on Omega for seemingly succeeding in its aggressive moves upmarket, but sure would be nice to see a few bones thrown to the loyal enthusiasts who helped keep them in the game, especially in the Speedy stakes.

Although there's always the next wave of Moon or SeaSwatches, I suppose.

I really hope they fix the legibility of the DSoTM. Reading the time is fine, but the subdials are unreadable with the glossy dial and polished white gold hands. Hilariously, the Apollo 8 is the exact opposite where it's very easy to read the subdials but reading the time is very difficult.

A Speedmaster for the enthusiasts!
Last year, we saw some pretty amazing watches from Omega in the Speedmaster collection. I am talking about the Speedmaster Broad Arrow Calibre 321 in Canopus white gold, the Moonshine Gold models, and the Chrono Chime, for example. Though these watches are great, they aren’t really within reach for most Speedmaster enthusiasts. Aside from whether I am right or wrong on the predictions that I made above, I hope that Omega will bring back Speedmaster models that speak to the collectors and are (financially) obtainable.

That's the most important part for me, I'm really hoping for new, affordable and obtainable Moonwatches 😀

The “That way, as a collector, I have something to collect” is on point. I think the new generation of product development managers at Omega is infatuated with those illegible two counter chronographs (5 families with multiple models in each! Now that’s an infatuation!). They don’t understand our infatuation with the moon missions because they didn’t live through those times. They also don’t need reading glasses, yet!

On the what Speedmaster we should get: a FOIS numbered edition with Spirate and Spirate in some premium moon watches (Sapphire sandwich) rather than leaving the icon of the brand languishing until every seamaster, De Ville and Constellation has it before putting it in a moonwatch. The moonwatch is their best seller and putting Spirate in it will facilitate servicing (I’ve heard Tim Mosso say it should be easier to regulate a watch with Spirate). It’ll help service centers save time and money.

The date of 3rd Oct of 2022 has been passed for the celebration of the 60years of the manned mission with Wally Schrira.
So, i don't expect any new version of the lovely FOIS for 2023.

Furthermore, all these years we have all been complaining for all the Limited Editions of the Speedmasters...Now that Omega changed the policy according to our request, i understand that we all miss new limited edition models...

I don't really see a change in the way spirate movements are going to be serviced compared to ones without.

Don't dispare.
There's always the Moonswatch in your choice of colours and for the ultimate in affordability and now new improved availability👍
Omega/Swatch has their entire customer base covered.

Hopefully Omeg...er...I mean......Swatch will release MoonSwatch versions of the DSOTM, Snoopy, Ed White etc. That's what we need. Let Rolex concentrate on their certified pre owned program.

New FOIS with lollipop seconds, matching subdial hands, vintage lume, flat link bracelet (with quick adjust) and 3861 movement with spirate tech.

Oh and exhibition caseback. And while I'm at it, plexi crystal or sapphire crystal with no milky ring.

Oh and 20mm lugs and comes with barenia leather strap and deployant clasp.

Screw it, add a date complication on the back of the movement too and power reserve.

My question is : ‘What Speedmaster could they make that I want that they have not already made’? There are so many variations out there, that as much as I love collecting, I can’t think of something I want that has not been done already, I’m fine to call it ‘lack of imagination’ and I’m happy to be given something to lust over…

Maybe a FOIS with calibre 321? Or maybe a Trilogy Speedy with calibre 321? Both with exhibition case back? This will cater to those who like the look of the pre Ed White Speedmasters but don't want to go vintage and want a brand new watch.

I would love to see a 3861 Speedmaster in two tone.
Steel and Moonshine.
Or steel and Sedna.
Or, as long as I'm dreaming, why not both?

Oh, and as long as I get to design my own fantasy Speedmasters here, I would like said two tones to have solid casebacks and hesalite crystals.

Cheers,
-GW
