2017-What Omega did you buy for under $500?

Bought this from eLady, Japan. My first ever Omega purchase, but paid slightly over $500. Just couldn't resist that cursive font on 'Genéve' as I hardly see it available on eBay as well. Still wondering if it was worth the money I paid for considering there were some grease marks(?) on the crystal. And also...the Samsung S8 takes incredible photos!

Are you joking? Of course it's worth it, well worth it!

I don't know much about this watch though, i had to forgo some of the seamasters available and went for this instead. From what I understand from this forum, the Genéve range is somewhat inferior to the constellation and seamasters (correct me if im wrong). But that cursive font really takes the cake.

Isn't the 501 a chronometer rated movement? What is reference number on the back of the watch if I may ask?

Either way sweet score!!!

@BenBagbag it can be chronometer rated, though it was more of a workhorse movement.

Caseback is 2846-1 SC. A similar one was sold on OF a little while back.

The later 551 was more elegant (and @mondodec aka Desmond has a fondness for Constellations with this movement.)

That applies more to the late 60's/70's Geneve line. These 50's/early 60's models were higher up the ladder IMO.

As mentioned above, the later Geneves aren't as highly regarded mainly because the case and dial design tended to be slightly simpler and less well-finished, so I presume they were cheaper watches at the time. Technically they are just as good as the more dressy Seamasters as they used the same movements and IMO some of them look very nice. I would guess yours is late 50s or very early 60s before the range was "downgraded" for whatever reason. At that time the Geneve range was considered to be between the Seamaster and Constellation lines in terms of quality, and your watch bears that out in terms of its beauty and obvious high quality of design and finish. I call your watch a real bargain and I agree that the cursive Geneve font is now pretty difficult to find. Great choice!

I had forgotten about this thread. I paid $325, including shipping for this Seamaster in 14KGF. Probably about the correct price. I think everything is correct on it. When I showed it to my watchmaker, he made approving sounds and kept saying, "Yes....yes...good.....mmmmmm", as he looked it over.
A good bargain, for sure! congrats

This seamaster 600 with an unusual concentric dial for about 220 usd! Although it will need a deep service.
BTW did u ever seen this type of hands before on a similar watch? They seem tritium hands. The seconds hand matches the usual style of seamamster 600 hands. However I've never seen such hours/minutes hands before. Maybe they are a hold replacements.

Two weeks later, bought a jar of watches for $17.99 (it had a Diesel and a Raymond Weil in the jar) and shockingly found this Seamaster...

And most recently...in yet another thrift store within six weeks of the others...this Speedmaster Pro. I just sold the Connie to help finance some service on the Speedy. I think I’ve used up a lifetime of “watch find luck” in a two month period. I’ve found 6-8 Omegas in the last 10 months and the most I spent was $150. Now I’m spoiled and looking all of the time.
