2 Black Dials

Greetings,
As a new member of the forum I would like to get some advice regarding authenticity and condition on two potential buys from a local marketplace. And of course it has to be black dials, because they look cool and prey on unexperienced buyers like myself. I know, very original...But somehow you have to get into the hobby right?
If any of these watches have been talked about before, please excuse my ignorance.

The first suspect:
A "vintage Omega geneve" supposedly 1960, 34mm, cal.601

My worries about this watch specifically are that I can't see an ` where it should be on Genève. Also the movement and back shot looks off to me. Other strap and all.
Unfortunately no shot of the crown.

the second suspect:

To be honest, this one looks pristine to me. Maybe a little heavily polished?
What are your thoughts?
And thanks for the opportunity to talk about these wonderful watches.

The first is 100% refinished.

Second I think is also refinished but need a straight on picture.

Best I got.
Seller told me it was revisioned 3-4 years ago but not refinished.

Suspect1 got no history.

A beginner shouldn’t even look at black dials. Direct your focus in a more fruitful direction.

Indeed. If you like it and feel the price is right for you, shit, just get it. Life's too short and not everyone worries about resale value.

My suggestion, and what I think padders was thinking as well, would be to look in the Private Watch Sales section here on OF. You don't need 200 posts in order to purchase. But you usually need to move quickly, since vintage black dials are popular and sell quickly.

Largely because black dials are a minefield. As a beginner it’s better to start somewhere where the stakes aren’t as high. I paid noob tax for my first Omega which is a gold plated 14701 but it was legit and unmolested. It would be much worse to pay excessive noob tax and receive a redial on top of that.

There have been a couple of nice ones in private sales recently, think both gone now. Not perfect but priced fairly. It seems the chance of getting a black dial anywhere near perfect is slim, even when you are experienced. I’m not but luckily the black dials don’t lure me on to the rocks!

Noob tax. It is very high on the black dials. I see your point but none of us like being taken for a fool. And overpaying for a redialled watch can leave a bad taste in the mouth.

Of course I get that and if there would be a genuine one on OF right now, I wouldn't ask. But getting feedback on what to look for would be helpful. I'm not too keen on jumping the gun, thats why I thought it would be a good idea to ask people more knowledgeable.
Any comment on the watches still is much appreciated!

Both watches are no good. First is a clear redial while the second is over polished, hands relumed, wrong crown.

In order to get a nice black dial you have to be able to jump the gun because good examples will be snapped up quickly. You have to know what you’re looking at which is the challenge. I recently got a genuine black dial but that’s after three years being on this forum and being able to make a quick decision.
