Ha!! Imagine how that would go down.... um, darling.... instead of us building a pool in the back, I decided to buy my Dad's watch off of him!!!

#newlysingle

Pools are highly overrated and require serious amounts of time to upkeep them. At least the ones that cost in the same price range as this watch ha ha. Although, if you are building a pool for that much you may have the means to pay others to take care of it perhaps.

So after a bit more research it seems that I can't even get an Extract of the Archives at the moment as the Omega Museum in Biel is not taking any more requests. My local Omega store told me that they are either overwhelmed with inquiries and/or they are updating the system to make it better. They also added that he "heard" that some of the rare Speedmaster records were lost in a fire back in the 1990's.

Can anyone support any of these claims from other Omega store peeps?

I emailed the archives people last week and haven鈥檛 gotten a response, so you could be right. Again if you give it to a major auction house, they should probably be able to get an extract for it. Also with this specific watch, I鈥檇 buy it with or without the extract.

After being told on Monday that the archives were down, I then got an email from Omega saying that their shiny new museum is open as well as their updated archives procedure. After a couple of calls to my local Omega Boutique they too confirmed that the archives just opened up gain this week so they have now submitted my info. Let's see how long that takes....

Hello gents!

Sorry I had to disappear for a quick minute to take care of a few security issues but old man Speedie is now all safe and sound so here are some of the extra pics that were requested.

As an update, it looks like my Dad is talking to some auction houses in Europe so my dream of being passed on the watch that my Grandfather bought him on his 21st birthday are pretty much gone!! 馃檨馃檨

I've told him that at the very least he should get another Racer watch that he can wear & enjoy so any suggestions??

(I'm liking the Japanese racing watches but not the 3570.40 as my budget can only really afford the 3518.50).
That's a gorgeous piece. I hope your dad has a change of heart and gives it to you!

If you like the Jap racing watches you need to check the Seiko line of Formula 1 Sporturas. Out of production, but can still be had, here's my Sportura, Flyback
I wear all the time, the only difference in the F1's are they have F1 printed on the dial, they have several different models to choose from also.

Firstly, hi from a new member.
I have been looking into the rareness of my own watch and came across this site and thread.
I asked my Dad for an Omega Speedmaster Professional for my 21st birthday (in 1971).
The one he bought me is identical to this one.
I had always been a bit disappointed with the red bits since I hadn't expected them, having not seen any pictures of one with anything other than white hands.
He will have bought it in the north of England, where I was brought up.
I still have it and it has huge emotional significance for me since it was my 21st present and my Dad had a heart attack and died in 1973 when only 53. A couple of years ago somebody told me they thought it was rare but I only started researching whether it actually was a couple of days ago.
Anyway, interesting read. Mine isn't for sale but I will be intrigued to find out what this goes for, just in case my pension doesn't last as long as I do...
cheers, Frank

Welcome. Its rare alright. Will go for silly money...if you hunt around here, you should find auction results. Last I remember, figures were in the $80~90k ... but again, that all depends on condition. Most folk would also suggest you put it up for auction, and that using the right auction house is necessary. When you run out of pension ofcourse 馃憤

Wow!
Not likely to run out of cash for a few years yet though, 20 or so and I may not last that long, my pension is partly a camera collection some of which lost a lot when I sold them but some went up a lot.

That is the funny/amazing/tragic thing about life...we never know what is going to happen or when! Its also not clear when the values of these watches will escalate again...could be in 1/10/50 years...and that also depends on how many come out of the woodwork. Whatever you do, just be wary of all the messages that may now start to flood your inbox now (unless they come from me 馃槣)...take your time, learn as much as you can, and feel free to ask. We are generally speaking a great bunch of blokes here...but there are some sharks in these waters...

Will do. I have a couple on my iPad I took yesterday. If I log on using that maybe I can post them.
I had the "crystal" which had lots if scratches and scuffs and bracelet, the original was very thin steel and the sprung link leaf springs failed, replaced by Omega abour 30 years ago. So the bracelet isn't original but I look after my stuff so it is in pretty nice condition.
I will log off and try the iPad...

Thanks for posting Frank , it looks superb to me but I am definitely no expert on these watches & I am sure you will get a lot of replies regarding the finer details .
