Recently acquired an IWC cal 89, a watch that I've been eyeing for a while. With so much dial these watches wear large for a vintage piece and they are so understated! I believe this is a 1950s iteration and as I'm fairly new to the watch game, wanted to inquire the expertise of those who are familiar with these watches.

There are a few questions I`d like to ask:

    1) Is this a redial?
    2) How does the case look in terms of polishing?

I`ve compared it against numerous posts within this forum and to my untrained eye the printing of letters look ok. Case polishing I honestly have no idea but if they are polished doesn't look like a heavy polish job. Any opinions from the more skillful eye is much appreciated.

Original dial ... lugs are polished, but not too badly. Here is mine for comparison.

Looks like a bit of honest wear and a lot of honest care to my non-expert eyes. I always appreciate that, even if it is just my imagination, as it suggests to me that someone before me/the new owner loved and appreciated the watch as much as, in this case, you yourself hopefully will. :)

    Great find!

Wow, that was a lot of responses! Love all the examples of these IWCs.

Curious myself as well. Also, right below that it looks like there is a bit of a smudge on the dial. Seem to notice this from time to time on these older IWCs, anyone have an idea on what its from?

I believe it is embossed leather. A Hirsch Atlantis strap. Wouldn`t have been my first personal choice but I kind of like it to be honest.

A lot of these IWC's have stains on the dial. That's why a lot of these dials are refinished. The fact yours is original is a big plus. Not sure if it's water intrusion or something else or a slip off from the watchmaker during service.
