I am a watch collector and sometimes I get unique things in on trade. I was told it was a Caliber 283. I cannot get the back off and therefore cannot verify the watch runs well. The hands and dial are closer to the 2608 in my estimation any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

2608 is the case reference number ("model" number).
Ref 2608 houses a caliber 283.

Your watch doesn't look like a 2608, the lugs are not the right shape.
The hands and dial are closer to the 2608
Trying to identify a watch or even the caliber by just the hands and dial alone is next to impossible, especially if the dial has been re-painted (badly) as this one has.

So my best bet would be to get that caseback open? Is this an interesting piece or did someone mess it up but putting the lume on it as it is.

There we go got the case back open and it looks like it was serviced in 22. If I am looking at it correctly.

If it was in Europe then it would be 2014, due to the difference in the way the dates are written there.

Unless I am missing something the date on the case is 14-2-22, which is 14th February 2022 in Europe.
