1950/1 (?) Pre Seamaster Cal 353

This watch was originally my grandfather's, and he was the only owner. I can tell it is a cal 353 bumper auto and the serial dates it back to around 1950/1, though I've never been able to find another that has a dial like this. I'm not sure if the dial was refinished at some point and the Seamaster branding was painted over, but AFAIK, the watch was never brought in and mostly just sat in a drawer. The case back is inscribed with 2627-2. Has anyone seen a cal 353 without the Seamaster branding?

Not quite the same, but similar.

This is my 1950 351 bumper in a 2577 case.

You’ll see that this wasn’t marked ‘Seamaster’ either.

I might, initially, have said that yours has been redialled/repainted and may at the outset had minute markers similar to mine but for the fact that your sweep second hand is longer than mine and reaches the minute markers on your watch.

So, I’m swaying towards the view that yours may not, after all, be repainted. Others with more expertise than me may have a different view.

Nice watch and heirloom btw.
