Personally I tend to use Google image search. I'll type the watch I want a strap for, and then look through the images to see what sort of things work well. Then look for a very good example of that type of strap (or click the link of the image, which may itself name the strap). Has worked very well. Not necessarily the cheapest way to go, but from there can post the image on a forum and ask if anyone has recommendation for this kind of strap.
How much did you pay? I've just gone to order and they're now £29.95. Not that it's expensive but I had read the comment above for £15.
Hello, forum. Here’s a first-time post for me … A recent acquisition has put me on a quest for an open-ended strap for a watch with lugs measuring 15mm. I’ve tried a 16mm strap, but it bulges at the sides and looks untidy. Scouring the Internet, I’ve not found any suitable 15mm vintage-style straps (that’s the key for me: vintage style). What do you all put on your vintage Longines watches with 15mm fixed lugs?
Hi Ollie, welcome to OF. The answer, for me, is two fold: -16mm perlon looks really great; or - bespoke straps from an Italian craftsman I found on the Italian forum who’s quite lovely and fast and works well, and I’m happy to share his contact privately. Others I think I’ve seen use 16mm leather straps but they do bulge, as you say...
You’re taunting those of us who like vintage straps, as they are great. but open ended? Here are some that I have commissioned.
Thanks a lot, ladies and gentlemen, for the information and suggestions—a great omen for my new forum participation.
I had one made by the strapmaker based on the recommendation of @Syrte and the endorsement of @NT931 and @timex. It arrived in today’s post. #impressed
Very nice, glad you like it— and glad this nice Italian strap maker is gradually finding a new following on OF
What color thread is this? Looks nice. Is it beige? Also, interesting distressed look. I had not noticed this in his selection.
