You know it is like this storey: you have an illness, you go to the doctor, The doctor tells you to rest and take this medicine. You leave his office and go and play a competitive game of basketball and then have a few beers after and then lose the prescription!

There is a Mango on eBay now - brand new in the box
Is it yours? Interesting first post.

Okay, my morbid curiosity made me check eBay, even though I think the person who posted above about it is the one who is listing in. The BIN price definitely made me laugh. Almost triple the last lightly-used one that I saw. If these are truly entering 'rare' territory I am more than happy to let others grab it. A colored dial on a modern watch does not drive up value that much for me -- not even close. I'd be all over a '60s SM300 instead.

Thanks. I'm not hot to buy one right now, but it is on my ' some day' list and if one pops up I would probably move faster than I did the last time I had an opportunity to by one at a very reasonable price.

Ok on service....take the watch to a good shop and have it put on a timeographer...see where the amplitude reading is...it should be 280-300 degrees...if so then wear it and enjoy....if much lower then service it. There is an excellent person in PDX..Kelly Hunter who just finished a full service on my Rainbow Flyback. I would send it to the NJ facility as there are too many horror stories.

cheers

I believe ΩF has a higher number of the rare Mango than any other forum?

I hadn’t seen any of the forum’s Mangos in quite awhile...🙁 I did just post mine in the snow on WRUW, but let’s see some of her siblings from around the world!

Here’s mine after coming back inside from the snow:

Hi - I'm new to this site and saw Mick Tock's Mango so I wanted to show off my new acquisition. I am and have been an Omega (SMP and 60's Automatic) person but I could not resist this Rainbow "Mango". I have wanted a Zenith Chrono, El Primero for years and while looking for an Omega Chrono I ran across this one. I am not one for bright dials and am usually conservative in watch styles I like but the design seems well balanced. It even came with the original receipt. Purchased new in 2013, sized and unworn until I snagged it off an auction site. Been wearing it 5 days now and I really like the proportions and the way it fits me. The fit and finish are top notch. It looks so good I almost don't want to wear it. But heck, that's what it's for. BTW, on another forum they state that there were only 470 of these made but I have not been able to confirm that.

That is a dream watch for me. If and when you want to sell/trade let me know!

I have 2 El Primeros - an old 1973 3019PHC and a 1993 Rainbow 400. I don't know about the prices in the USA, but where I live in Canada, there are 2 independent watchmakers who are good with these and the base price for service is $750 plus parts. Both are an 8 week wait for turnaround time. I use another independent watchmaker. LMVH will also service them but I have heard that they don't service the EPs in Canada - they all go to Switzerland. Their price is close to $1000 Cdn. and includes the standard parts that are replaced. I use one of the independents as I have had mixed results with LMVH. The mango is quite rare and very desirable. You won't have trouble selling it if the price of a service is an issue for you.

If anyone intends to sell their Mango, Elite or Rainbow, please hit me up! At least if you are ok with shipping it within or to Europe.

I still have the two tone 1993 Rainbow with the blue dial that I bought from you a few years ago. I was able to track down the correct outer and inner box, so it is now a complete set with the hang tag, warranty and owner's booklet. I have an El Primero Surf that I wear now but I plan on getting the Rainbow serviced next year so that I can start wearing it.

Yeah, not happy about selling that one too.

Did you ever replace the date disc? I seem to think the blue ones should have a color coordinated (blue) date disc as well?

I haven't serviced it while in my possession but these were built at a time when Zenith wasn't overly concerned about standardization. I think the one in the Rossler book was white. Mine has the wrong reference number on the caseback (from the prototypes, possibly). They may have made a number change at the last minute when production started, and it is a very early Rainbow based on the warranty card. I have seen a couple of variations on the text in the blue dial as well.
